Oh dear, I do seem to have caused controversy. But as newly retired pensioner this was my first experience of being penalised for retiring. I'll keep my thoughts to myself next time. Good night.
You are as entitled to your thoughts as anyone else, and you are perfectly entitled to voice them on here too.
I too am fairly recently retired, and you have certainly given me something to think about.

Not your fault N, as has been said, there are those on here that would complain about anything, it gets their post count up and some look up to them as experts lol
Your post was a good one just spoiled by a few post counters.
I too will keep stum when retirement comes along v soon.
1. Posts in LiG aren't counted.
2. Ageism isn't a "thing" in insurance.
3. Rates and terms will be based on claims experience.
4. We're all free to accept those terms, or go elsewhere.
5. Of course the post was a perfectly valid topic.
There are many topics posted here which I've learnt from and I hope they keep coming.
Particularly on anything to do with retirement and our experiences with it

Refer to my previous post. You only believe you are 'being penalised for retiring' because you believe you should receive concessions simply for being a pensioner.
Fact is baby boomer pensioners are mostly better off than future generations who will not be pensioners until they reach 70 at least so cannot any longer expect to be regarded as more deserving & entitled to free stuff just for being pensioners.
It's true enough that not all pensioners are well off so be happy with free bus passes, free TV licence for over 75 & heating allowances which helps those in genuine need & don't whinge if your insurance cost is higher if you are likely to use your caravan more.
I am 64 & I feel privileged to have lived most of my life in a stable world that for most of that time got generally better. If I was 20 now & did exactly the same with my life as I did I would not be as well off as I am now in 44yrs time I'm sure.
I would think that retired folks although possibly making more use of their camper, they would be far less liable to make a claim,as older folks will be more experienced and tend to appreciate thing more ,thus less likely to do any damage, they are also less likely to have children in tow,
so once again less damage , Older folks usually drink less and so much less of a liability.
The accident statistic algorithms plainly do not reflect your take on it dimbles or pensioners would cost less to insure not more & I think older folks tend to drink more. They just don't think they do because they don't think downing a bottle of wine with their dinner is actually drinking.

I had to smile and at the same time agree with what you have said, Insurance premiums are by and large based on the number of claims for different age groups, Its only right that the retired should pay more, they can spend some of the money they have stashed away.
PS some of them drink a lot as well.
Should try and do the same as you do with car insurance. Look around for the cheaper quote and stop. They will over a lower quote.

Have enjoyed this topic! Last few posts made me laugh. I've just taken early retirement at 50, but had to laugh at the comments about drinking less.....hmmmm I no longer have to get up early to go t work, so much easier to have that wee extra glass with dinner!
