Fascinating thread - look what I have started!
To clarify - we don't intend to be nomadic (although we do have a four week caravan break in Europe in June, which has been planned and the crossing paid for for some months)and have found a site in the area we wish to live which will allow us to stay for a "special" four weekly rent. Daughter's house is not big enough for us and 2 dogs to share with her family.
We don't have insurance for our 1999 van and our goods will be stored by a reputable removals firm who carry the appropriate insurance.
My main concerns were regarding car tax, registration and insurance, as we will no longer be living at the address currently occupied. Also, as soon as we have the cash, we need to change our car and I don't know how to do this unless we have a fixed address. Ditto a new house.
Of course, we are hoping against hope that when we get back from our 4 week trip we will have somewhere to move into, but we haven't found the right house yet....

You can register new car to daughter's address & then change it when you get new house. Insurer will want know if parked in garage/drive/street & provided you are honest with what parking arrangements you would have if you were actually living there I can't see a problem. I think it's been established that provided you have an address it's ok to go on holiday in your caravan.

Ah. Next time I'm asked if my car's parked overnight in a garage, I'll say yes. My neighbour has a garage, and if I was actually living there, those would be my parking arrangements. So I'll say yes, and that would be OK then.
But hey. There's ways and means, nudge nudge, wink wink. We can be economical with the actualité etc.
Look. People can make their own mind up. I was a Chartered Insurer by examination and assessed CPD and had a 33 year career dealing with private and commercial motor and domestic and commercial property, underwriting and claims, at handling and management levels. Someone else with two claims can sneer at that all they like. It doesn't bother me. It's not my stuff at risk
My advice remains thus. Tell them the truth, and go from there. There is no real peace of mind with relying on something being there when at the moment it's needed most, it may not be. You may as well not bother having it at all.
Joanna, if t'were me, I'd tell them where you'll be (you're not moving every 28 days then) and go from there. You'll have to do a couple of changes of address with the car insurers and DVLA over the next 12 months or so. Can't see a problem. The holiday's a genuine holiday. And with the new car, you just advise the substitution. As to the new house, lots of people buy property who don't currently own one. We've done it 3 times.
Good luck
