I'm currently customising a motorcycle and came across the process of Hydrographics, also called Hydrodipping.
For those of you that have never heard of it, you get a film of plastic and lay it on water.
The bottom layer of plastic dissolves, you then spray some activator across the top which dissolves the top layer and you're left with ink floating on top of the water.
The next step is to slowly push an object through the ink which sticks to whatever is being pushed through.
There are thousands of patterns to choose from, I went for a carbon fibre effect and had my first attempt a few days ago.
I was fairly happy with the results. You do have to put some clear coat lacquer over the top when dry.

I wonder if you could use it on the plastic that a 3D printer uses? We have printed lots of bits and bobs but of course they all come out the same colour. I realise you can paint or have different colours but I really like the effect you've got.

If the item is ok to be submerged, it can be done.
Have a look on youtube, there's thousands of videos.

GCMS, a 5x1 metre roll of film is about £30, the activator is £18 per litre but you need a spray gun.
You can get it in an aerosol can for about £11 for 400ml.
Just need a tank big enough to dip what you want, the bath is ideal, but do it when your wife is out.
Moppetsdad, yeah, it does some wicked tattoos, easily washes off tho.
Screaming scull, I do have a river where I work
Your motorhome might not be much good when it comes out.

It has been done on road wheels in snakeskin that looked fantastic
On a tv program wheeler dealers it looks a great thing for motorcycles custom jobs.
