Does anybody know if the steam/diesel train is running in the evening this year, we were there last year and had great fun travelling from harman's cross to swanage and back after a couple of beers, we heard that this year the line has been extended to wareham, and looking on website it didn't mention any evening timetables.
Pity if they have stopped the evening one.
------------- you are only as old as the woman you feel.
Looks as if the latest services on their timetable seem to be late afternoon rather than evening, but they do advertise a pre-bookable Bistro service "mostly on Friday evenings", if that might be of interest.
just been to Mh &Cc site close by,[Haycaft] the link to Wareham has not happened yet [two weeks ago any way] got the impression it won't happen till August and thought that the timetable finished around 7:00 pm, lovely little trip

The time tables are a little confusing but it seems there is now a service to and from Wareham but the last train to Swanage is about 1800 hours. Blooming expensive though at £15 return I believe and no age concession.

I am not sure why any local residents would want to travel from Swanage to Wareham by train...only takes 10 -15 minutes in a car

...and only 37 minutes by bus (38 coming back - must be that bit up into Corfe Castle with a pedestrian crossing at the top!) and of course cheaper than car or train for those of us with an English bus pass.

Actually, Google says it's 21 minutes by car but never seems that long when I drive it

Great walk and views of the coastline if you go over the Purbeck Ridge. Either way. That's free!
That is one walk on my list of walks to do before I die. I have walked along the top of Ballard Down to Old Harry Rocks from Swanage and Studland but not all the way back towards Corfe.
I have walked from Norden to Corfe along the ridge which has spectacular views of Corfe Castle but then chickened out and caught the train into Swanage.
