Can anyone tell me what the A17 is like to drive?

Going to Norwich and google tells me to leave the A1 and use A17 and A47. Am worried that the A17 will make my son sick. Smaller, bendy roads always make him feel ill, but he is fine on Motorways and dual carriageways.

I would rather go A14 and A11 if it stops him feeling ill

It's just a normal busy A road, some hate it others including myself find nothing wrong with it, it's certainly not a small bendy road by any means just a well used main road.

Most of the A47 is dual carriageway so your son should be ok, the A17 can be slow going in parts due to the amount of agricultural traffic that tend to use it at slow speeds.

If your son suffers from travel sickness then maybe one of those tiny melt in the mouth travel pills would help him to feel more comfortable?
I have used them with some of my Grandchildren on long travels and flights, and they are both fine. We find that Boots own brand are easy to take and act quickly.

That's exactly what I do if I'm going on a route I'm unfamiliar with. It can sometimes be time consuming but at least I'm using my own independence to find out if the road is suitable or not. That way you can personally judge for yourself if the road is suitable regarding the issue of travel sickness.

A17 Sometimes I love it other times I loath it. Its not a small bendy road (made me smile) When are you travelling, there's a bit of the 47 just as you come off the 17 at Kings Lynn thats due some roadworks, with diversions from September.
The first bit of the 47 from Kings Lynn is a bit bendy through the villages but then its fairly good to Norwich

I also find it useful for "seeing " junctions where I have to exit - I can get some visual markers leading up to it

Your son should be ok on the A17, my daughter used to have terrible travel sickness, we have travelled on the A17 many times and she was always ok. The only problem with the A17 is it's a rather boring road to travel on.

Thanks for the replies folks. I think we will try it and see how we go. He has most issues on roads that have bends but where you can still travel fairly fast.

The only "dodgy" part of the A17 is just before Sutton Bridge, you get in the right-hand lane and turn left at the roundabout, the road is marked but it's easy to miss. Get it wrong and you' ll struggle to get in the correct lane when it's busy.

We drove along there yesterday and there were signs saying that the road will be closed and diversion in place starting today, I don't know for how long and exactly where but I'm sure you can google it.

They usually only close the A17 at nights to do roads works if possible and I think that's the case of those if I remember correctly.
