Plassey? Near to Wrexham, good while since I stayed there but plenty for kids.
Caravan club at Chatsworth for their farm and adventure playground.
Camping and caravan club, The Star at Alton for obvious reasons but children may be a bit young
Lots of campsites close to The Monsal Trail/ Manifold/ Tissington trai in Peak Districtl if like riding bikes.

If you can manage without EHU, The Withies near Much Wenlock is a lovely getaway.
Fforest Fields is another great spot just over the Welsh border, near Builth Wells.
Neither sites have play areas as such but The Withies have loads of outside activities for kids (den building etc,) and Fforest Fields has a lake to swim in, streams to paddle in and canoes for hire.

...Talking of the Tissington Trail...
Whilst certainly not our cup of tea, we did pop in once for a cuppa and a nosy around, whilst passing on said trail. I can see why folk with kids would like it. Plenty of camping parents from this area seem to rate it, if word on the street is to be believed.
Gets mixed reviews, but the upshot is it averages 8/10, so must be doing something right on the whole?

Don't know where you are in Shropshire, but Google has down as around 60miles/1hr 40 mins from Shrewsbury.

Would you go as far as Dinas Dinlle, outside Caernarfon? Dinlle Caravan Park has bar, pool table, convenience and takeaway shops at the end of the road, and is close to the partly pebbly beach. Might be worth a look. Can be windy though!
