Hi
If I could be cheeky and ask a quick question of any owners of the above vehicles (initially of pre 2008 models but feedback on the later models could also be relevant)..
How easy is it to lift out the rear seats and when removed, what sort of max' load length at floor level is achieved(with tailgate closed)?

Also are they "identical" or do they *differ in the engines they were fitted with, etc?..
*and if so, are there any models that are best avoided?

(okay..so maybe not such a quick question, then.)

After 2008 back seats lift out very easily. No tools required. Total load length seats out front seat slid right forward is over 1.9mtres. Just measured mine for you. I have owned an older model 2005 but I never had cause to lift out seats so I don't know. Both makes are just about identical apart from badges, trim. They come down the same production line. Same engines as well. Outed a 90k miles 09 Berlingo for a new one this yr. always serviced at Cit garage & only repair was egr valve.

Performance & mpg wise best is 1.6 diesel but you need a full main dealer service history to ensure oil chages at interval with correct oil used. Turbo failure only really occurs due to missed oil changes or wrong grade used. if you go for 2006 or older then 1.9 diesel will run for 300k miles but performance really is not up to modern standards.

That's just the sort of info' I'm after.
(and thanks for going to the trouble of going out and measuring yours!)

It's just that our (my) old Hiace van, which we've had for 5-6 years, is coming up for it's mot and although it shouldn't take too much to get it through, as I'm now looking after the grand-daughter on a regular basis, I could really do with something with rear seats now anyway..
( and at 16 years old and at 215,000 miles, the Hiace -which had signs of a hard life when we bought it!- is starting to look, and act, it's age.. )

..and I thought that a Berlingo may be able tide us over as a good, usable all-rounder(& camping vehicle), until such time as we decide if we are going to go down the campervan/MH route again..?

I have a 2012 Partner 1.6 diesel 115 BHP. Lovely car.
With rear seats you you can lay a double airbed in the back.

Seats lift out by pulling lever to fold backrest forward then and tilt folded seat forwards. Then lift a bar under it and the folded seat just lifts out. Mine has 3 identical single seats in the back some have a single and a double.

I think Peugeot and Citroen engines are the same block etc but have some differences with Pugs generally being more powerful and more toys.

I don't know how anyone could have any other car. Mine does 50mpg whether running round or on motorway and with 115bhp is very nippy.

Up until 6 months I had the pleasure of owning a 2011 Berlingo Moltispace XTR semi auto with paddle shift if you wanted to use it in semi auto. Or turn the gear shift to full auto and away you go. 1.6 diesel with stop start. I have to say its the most practical car you can buy for that kind of price. I would put pictures up but they are all in my photobucket a/c and cant post them on here anymore. So a i will give my best verbal description. Taking the seats out and putting back is a doddle. Pull lever and tilt seats forward, small red lever will be visible, pull that lever and seats just lift out. If you get the XTR model, this has the 3 seperate seats in the back which makes removal a lot easier. On the VTR model and I think all the peaugeot models the seats are a 60/40 split which makes removal heavier. Space in back is huge. to the point we could lay a double size airbed in the back, as we thought we might have to sleep in there when lightning was forecast, when camping a couple of times. The tailgate opens to a really good height and unless you are really tall you wont have to stoop to unload. Rear sliding doors, which I loved especially in tight parking spaces with the grand kids being able to just jump in. I had mine for 2& half years, 65k miles. serviced every 20k at Citreon and can say, not one problem. Downside, Not a cool car (according to my 16yr old grandaughter) Rear windows do not open fully, they just tilt out a small way. Do I miss it?.... for its practicality, without a doubt. Brilliant car. Go for the XTR range if poss as it has more extras and looks better from outside too.

We must have been typing at the same time. I see your pug has the 3 seats in back. I wasnt sure if they did.

We have a 2012 Berlingo multi space plus 1.6hdi it's a brilliant vehicle.
Economical, split rear seats which fold forward or can be taken out, wide body, boot space like a cave. We tow a 2berth caravan 1275mgw, no problems at all.

Completely love this car.

Thanks for all of this..

Although you've got us both thinking a bit now....?!

Initially we were just thinking of a tidy but cheaper, older (pre-2008?) model, as it was only really intended to be "my" runabout (for DIY centre and tip runs e tc,our "mule" if you like),and with it also being brought into play for camping (and possibly even used as a basic "mini-camper" occasionally?). The OH's car would've still being considered to be our "main" vehicle.

But if we opted for the later, more expensive model, this could/would end up being viewed as the "main" vehicle (and therefore, used by the OH for work and going to meetings etc), in which case we'd get rid of the her Peugeot hatchback...which would leave me back to square one re: "my" all-rounder runabout?...

We'll need to have a good crawl in/around the earlier model, just to see if they would/wouldn't be big enough(length wise)to meet our needs..

Yes, we have seen the likes of the Amdro Boot jump(& similar)and they are quite ingenious.

Although I don't think we'd be needing to shoehorn that amount of "stuff" into something that would remain in/part of, the vehicle during use..

We'd intend to just use the vehicle for kipping in, having unloaded what ever camping kit we'd taken, into one of our pop up Quechua shelters (or even just get a suitable tailgate or side drive-away awning?).

Those are our "current" thoughts anyway...??..

Sorry, pepe63, only just read this. Have two friends each with Berlingos, one a multi-space and one a Partner, one circa 2010, the other 2015. The older one's been used for camping plus lots of local jobs (he's a joiner) and the younger one's been carting around (on Mull's roads!) various building equipment (they're building their own house), strimmers and God knows what else! Very reliable and economical.

(I'd forgotten that this thread had been moved down to "Life.." )

We're really quite undecided at the moment. The OH isn't convinced at all that the Berlingo route is the way to go, and instead she is still leaning towards the MWB van(or minibus/crewvan?) and line-out and adapt that....again!

For me, as we probably spend as much time setting up our "awning", as we would a tent, we may as well just use the tent (with the option to occasionally kip in the "car", with the "pop-up" along side, as and when?).

I suppose we'll just see what the up coming MOT on the Toyota throws up first...

I had a 2013 XTR and it was a wonderfully practical and spacious vehicle, and great value (not cool though). Enormous inside when the rear seats are out and, yes, they are easy to remove. However, the clutch started to fail on mine after about 23,000 miles and, although it was replaced under warranty, it still felt a bit suspect to me.

As others have noted, you absolutely must change the oil at the very least at the frequency given in the book (more frequently if you are paranoid) and with the exact type of oil specified, otherwise these engines can be fragile.
