Have you conducted a search yourself on Google for Mobility Scooter Insurance?
Like any other insurance there will be terms and conditions which may vary from company to company so the best solution is to phone and obtain a firm quote and then decide which is the best policy to suit you.
When my father was alive he had his mobility scooter insured with a company in Grantham, it cost him£80 pound for the year, can't remember the companies name.
My wife has one a small shopping type pavement only not for the road its not insured, no legal requirement.I'm sur if you want insurance there are plenty of companies for example Insurance Scooter
Several years ago a neighbour of ours had a slight accident with their mobility scooter. Apparently they clipped a pedestrians ankle, it wasn't broken, but some time later they got a solicitors letter and, to cut a long story short, they ended up paying out over £1000 in compensation and legal fees.
My wife now uses a scooter, the first thing we did after buying it was getting insurance. After our neighbours experience it was a no-brainer.

------------- Don't panic!
Hit it with a pointed stick!
Nostalgia's not what it used to be.
We added ours to our home insurance and it did not cost any more however that is for theft. I think £80 a year for third party insurance is way over the top. After all to insure our Corolla only costs £120 a year.
As pointed out. Main reason for insuring a mobility scooter is third party cover. In one case seen on a tv prog the uninsured scooter owner after breaking a pedestrian's leg ended up with a bill for £16k. Apparently £4k to the victim & £12k to the no win no fee lawyers. It's a scam of course but NWNF makes litigation easy for anybody & generally a pedestrian hit on the pavement by scooter rider will be a pretty open & shut case I would think.
My 4 year old grand daughter had use of one for a couple of weeks (long story, but shes not disabled in any way). And i tell you now, it was the most fun she (ok - we) have had with any 'toy' she has ever had.
We have a video that should really be on youtube of me chasing her round the garden feigning trying to catch her, while shes shrieking her head off all the while.
I was also surprised how fast it went - on grass as well, with myself on it and her on my knee driving.
It was a sad day when it went to its intended owner.
