You may need to call your Broadband provider.... your life is like the Flanders and Swan song ‘The Gas Man Cometh’.
Well, I got an email on Friday evening from a site I'd like to book in France. They will hold NY booking until the 5th as long as I post a cheque for deposit.
I haven't had a cheque book for over 25 years. It is the weekend of Hogmanay. I won't get to a bank or post office until the 2nd so it looks like they won't be getting that cheque.

My email is Hotmail so I don't think my broadband provider is responsible...my money would be on Microsoft.
I returned the jug myself to my nearest Argos store and they did a refund back to my card. Just have to wait for it to arrive in my bank. I was also told I would get a complimentary £5. I am not sure if that will be cash or providing I spend over £50 with them next time - lol.
I also wrote to somebody believed to be the CEO of Argos but the email bounced so I have written to another person at Sainsburys who seems to be responsible for Argos. It has not bounced yet.
You never know...they may offer me an all expenses paid trip to the Bahamas as compensation
..I haven't had a cheque book for over 25 years....
Astonishing! We still use ours regularly although recently have found that companies politely decline a cheque, preferring instead a credit or debit card payment instead.
I moved to a country that went straight from passbooks to electronic banking. Then, when I moved to Ireland, they were phasing them out and do didn't even offer me one.
As for filter jugs, I think lidl had them - britax and filters...

The problem with cheques is that if you receive one you have to go to a bank to cash it and that's not easy if you live miles from a bank and with high street branches being closed all over the place cheques will certainly be phased out I think. My cheque book is in a drawer somewhere gathering dust I think.

I use a cheque book regularly too. A lot of people here do. Amongst the reasons for doing so include appalling Internet (if it exists at all!)and the cost to small businesses of having credit/debit card facilities. A lot of small B&Bs insist on cash only or a cheque deposit - no cheque deposit, no booking, because a lot have been left high and dry.
And if you do do Internet or telephone banking, then there's the nightmare of what happens when the Internet goes down or you're on a mobile app and the mast dies! Or when, as I did not long ago, I went to pay for fuel on the mainland and my debit card was declined. I had checked my account the day before leaving i.e. 2 days previously and had more than enough in my account and all DDs paid. What had happened was that I'd had my new debit card and had activated it (I thought) but the computer system hadn't. My son spent over 8 hours on the phone trying to sort this out - I'd no mobile or Internet access where I was. Friends bailed me out and I got home but took 3 weeks to get money back to pay them.
