Yes, bucket (or Kampa khaki, etc) is controversial: mostly we camp in ‘wild’ sites where the loos can be a long walk through woods, and wee in the bushes at night.

Hello Nic!
My tips are: comfy fold out chair, bottle of wine, good book, campfire.
Bucket. With cat litter in the bottom. Unless you can go from bed time to breakfast without going to the loo.
"Campfire" does limit the choice - not all sites allow them. Agree with the wine & good book. Fresh coffee & a bacon buttie for breakfast will also make some folk envious.
And do line the bucket with a black bin bag, makes disposal easier. You can make the rim more comfy by putting a float sponge "noodle" around it, as they suggest in NZ where you need such items if there's been an earthquake. Or have a cosy dressing gown and just nip out to the loo! My preference.
Hi. I am thinking of camping on my own...well me and 2 dogs..but would like to meet like minded people..I am in my 60,s but not ready for my rocking chair yet. I have a small tent but thinking of getting s tailgate awning for my car.. I would prefer to stay on a site with facilities..Anybody any ideas or advice please....or looking for a camping buddy?..Jeannie.
Hi Jeannie. Try posting this on the Meeting Up forum - it does what it says on the tin. Good luck!
And take yourself & your tent off camping, you'll be fine: folk will quietly look out for you, helpful without being intimidating or a nuisance. The site search here will help you find that perfect site.
