Hi there I did put this request a few days ago in back packing section, but no response yet so thought would try in this section. Anyway my wife and I hope to take our two children (aged 12 and 10) on our first wild camp trip during the summer in Dartmoor. We would like suggestions for a 2 day (one overnight) circular walk starting from the South/South East area of Dartmoor - Ivy Bridge/South Brent/ Shipley Bridge/Buckfastleigh way. Ideally we would love to walk for 4-5 hours on the first day and then perhaps similar or slightly shorter on the way back, with an idea of wild camp spot. Any ideas/suggestions/tips would be much appreciated. Thanks
You could start your walk from the tiny Dartmoor village of Scoriton, near Buckfastleigh. Take the lane opposite the farm up onto the open Moor and take a number of routes, perhaps head out to the Avon dam, or Red Lake.
On your return pop into the Tradesmans Arms for a local ale, the locals are really friendly! 👍😀🍺
Can't do links but where you can camp is on the official map. I'm guessing you have that http://www.dartmoor.gov.uk/about-us/about-us-maps/new-camping-map
Big route at http://my.viewranger.com/route/details/MTg4MzQ=
I relocated down to Plymouth in April from Scotland, I do anything possible to escape at the weekends and have been on Dartmoor regularly since.
I'm a wild camper in the Cairngorms up north and have already got my eyes on a high level route on Dartmoor just behind Widdlecombe in the Moor village, from Turnhill Rocks and heading north across the Tors.
I walked it last Saturday and totally enjoyed the route and picked up on great camping options there, also the Tors are west facing so you can imagine the sunsets.
Hope that helps a little, sorry I'm still getting to know the area myself!
