Ironman Uk

Due to air pollution the cycle has been cut by 17 miles, i know a few guys doing this that are livid, All due to one knobhead setting the moors on fire.

the swim is also in doubt due to Blue algae

let hope they throw away the key, but they probably wont

To be honest I don't know why they are so annoyed, you'd think they'd be glad to have 17 miles cut off the cycling stage, at least they won't have to go so far. But then their attitude is just typical of a lot of selfish bar stewards who think a stupid fitness competition is more important than the destruction of several square miles of land and the probable loss of various forms of wildlife and their habitat!

Tiger mouse if you trained for 12 months solid to do the London marathon and they reduced the length at last the minute, in your head you technically haven’t done a marathon.

I have a mate who’s competing to try and and qualify for Hawaii in the World Series, the cycle is his strength we’re he makes ups positions, knocking it down by 17 miles losses him positions and a potential qualification.
Ironman uk brings millions to Lancashire hopefully the actions of a idiot won’t jeopardise the future of this race

Your right another 365 days training, another £400 entrance fee (no refunds being given) and another year older, then theirs the athletes that travel from all around the world that compete for what isn’t a full race
They should of rerouted the cycle go make up the 17 miles.

But the biggest point is all of this is a man made problem by some pillock that thought it was funny to set a field on fire and cause 17 square kilometres of devastation that’s currently burning 5ft bellow the surface.

Bolton might end up losing iron man uk over this which generates millions in local revenue

Why should they be given a refund? If the event was cancelled completely then yes, they would have every right to ask for, and get, a refund, but it's still going ahead so it's up to the individual whether he/she takes part or not. If they don't then that's their own personal choice, no-one is forcing them to not take part so if they don't get a refund then tough!

tigermouse its a famous endurance race with bragging rights to anyone that completes it, if its shortened then its not the complete package, just like you aint done a marathon until you run 26 miles, lands end to john o groats would'nt be the same if you stopped at St ives, If they cant extend the bike ride they should give them the option to transfer to next year free of charge

Destruction of land!......Loss of wildlife and habitat!

I am sorry, but you don’t know what your talking about. These areas of land will be back before you know it, and better. Yes of course some wildlife will suffer in the very short time, but nature is a wonderful thing and it will be back to a better habitat very soon.

Don’t get me wrong, whoever is responsible should be given a torrid time, don’t even ask me what I would do! 😡😡

We control burn every year here on Dartmoor, I have done it myself, it controls the Bracken and Gorse, and is an essential part of Moorland management.

We had a huge wildfire, a few years ago, on an area called Trendlebere. It was back, looking better and providing a far better and more diverse habitat in no time.

Bessie 500 would you rather your friend be allowed to ride through the area? earlier this week we could still smell the smoke in the early mornings and we are 5 miles away. I understand his disappointment
My daughter was helping on a feeding station on the cycle circuit today and said people were struggling. She saw a man violently sick and then collapsed. The heat and conditions in the water had led to dehydration and sickness.
I don't think this 1 incident will make the organisers change the venue. It has run so smoothly for many years.

Tootells I would rather that the fire wasn’t started in the 1st place, but it was and nothing can be done about that now. But Rivington was on fire 2 weeks before the Ironman so you would have thought they could have pre-planned a slightly different route or even done another loop of the same section that had already got the road closed.

I was watching the race yesterday in westhoughton and Christ it was too hot to be doing that in, One of the guys I know finished 5th in his age category and qualified for the world championships in Hawaii, another One had to retire due to a split tyre and the other 2 battled through.

I was actually running around Pennington last night which had also been on fire it was nice to see new grass & flowers growing through all the charred soil.

maybe the organisers could spend some of their profits hiring a traffic management company that actually knows what they are doing.

no clear signage, it was common to drive a mile up a country lane, then come upon a bloke stood there with cones. no warning at the previous junction as the two caravanners behind me found out. when this was pointed out, one of the guys in high viz got cocky till he saw the size of the bloke towing the first caravan. poor guy had to unhitch his van to turn round in the narrow lane.

just a shambles traffic wise.

Hence my reply to the “destruction and loss” comment........It will be back in no time, looking better and providing a more diverse habitat than before.........Should still flog those responsible though. 👍😀

We watched the Ironman one May in Lanzarote. On part of the cycle route , through the volcanic wasteland, the temperatures reached 120. The marathon was run along the promenade were it was only about 80 degrees
