In our small town, a development involving a Lidl store and a Wickes store is nearing completion. Now I have heard that Wickes have pulled out.
Perhaps the reason will come out all in good time, but wondering who will take it on now.
Bertie.
It's no wonder why the likes of Homebase went into decline as about 4 years ago we wanted a double kitchen cupboard that was on display with other matching cupboards sold independently at a competitive price. I said to the assistant that we wanted to take one now, only to be told that the item had now been discontinued and had none in stock. I asked if she could check to find out if Homebase had any surplus in their main warehouse that could be sent to the store but she declined to assist. It seemed more like that she couldn't be bothered so asked why the item was still priced up in store when the fact is the item doesn't really exist and the answer was..."That's the way they work". We walked out in disgust and never bought anything from Homebase again after that.

B&Q have just stopped fitting kitchens and I believe designing them as well. A kitchen fitter told me the other week on a camp site
I saw an advert on TV only yesterday for B&Q kitchens, and the kitchens section of their website is still live. Strange if they have stopped doing them?
You can go in and buy a kitchen.....but there are no designers. You need to work out what units/appliances you need and work out your own measurements. Literally you buy off the shelf and arrange your own fitting.
You can't wander in with the size of your kitchen, with a list of where your points/water and waste is and ask them to design it for you.
It starts getting complicated, when you have non standard size 'gaps' and units need cutting down etc to fit. Also when more electric points need adding, the old plumbing and tiles need replacing, plastering needs doing.
Choosing the kitchen is easy, fitting a basic kitchen isn't difficult. But the measuring up for it and working out which units you want, can be a pain.
Just get a screw fix catalogue they have everything you will ever need, but your right young people today can’t use a drill or screwdriver to it’s a lost market.
