Apparently if a woman drinks 2 glasses of wine it doubles the chances of a stroke.

If you let her finish the bottle she'll probably suck it as well !

We lived in France for 10 exceptionally happy years and during that time we got to know that the French have this drinking thing exactly right.

There are no adverts on the TV advising you against drink, no doctor I saw over there ever asked a single question about how much we/I drank and there is absolutely no stigma attached or expressed to anyone who likes to have a drink or two, unless that is a person is an out and out drunk.

When I went to my first well mans clinic at the grand old age of 40 they talked about the 21 units thing to which I asked, is that per day? !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Life is for the living, I can't stand the thought of a useless sitting around twiddling my thumbs in a care home very old age. I want to do what I can do to enjoy everything and then when I don't, I want to have the freedom to be able to turn off my very own light-switch of life.

There is a great World to be found out there, but by the very day, to find where it is becomes more of a challenge!

I am convinced there is a genetic component to any addiction - otherwise everyone who ever smoked pot would still be doing it etc. Therefore I think it's very difficult to unpick those of us for whom zero is best and whom a little is OK - problem is that doesn't make good headlines .   We can all find someone who lived a life as a monk and died at 25 or lived to be a hundred on fags and sheep dip

my mate was buried last week,,65 years of age and i didnt know he had a drink problem ,i knew he liked a few we all did,a few years ago his kidnets and liver stopped working the way they should ,he lost a lot of blood and contracted mrmsa if thats correct when he was in hospital which was a lot,i never saw anyones body change as much ,he looked like a guy who was at least 90 i felt so sorry for him ,,a bottle of hard spirits and wine dont know how much of that stuff,a day,it transpired that he was scared from dentists so much so abscesses were appering from the gums through to his face out side his face ,,his jaw actually broke with the state of the bone,he was admitted back to hospital 2months ago where they tried to sort the issue of the jaw and teeth ,fitted a steel plare ,,2weeks later ,still in hospital he died of pneumonia,,a keen freemason as i am and Robert Burns historian he loved fishing and music ,very sad ,,RIP mate, make your stay sort RWM,

etive, that sounds very grim, and I am sorry you lost your mate in such distressing circumstances.

My friend nearly lost her husband this year. He went into hospital with a chest infection, organs started shutting down, on life support for weeks, lasting organ damage. Major issue: his liver was shot due to a drink problem he had hidden, and she had kept hidden from everyone for years. It meant that a simple infection nearly killed him, He is now permanently disabled, will never regain his full function and energy and is partially confined to a wheelchair, It has wrecked my friend's life.

He was also afraid of doctors due to mental health issues, and I don't think maintain secrecy for the sake of a 'respectable front' helped either of them.

If I had to live in France I would expect that 21 units per day to be absolute minimal
