my mate was buried last week,,65 years of age and i didnt know he had a drink problem ,i knew he liked a few we all did,a few years ago his kidnets and liver stopped working the way they should ,he lost a lot of blood and contracted mrmsa if thats correct when he was in hospital which was a lot,i never saw anyones body change as much ,he looked like a guy who was at least 90 i felt so sorry for him ,,a bottle of hard spirits and wine dont know how much of that stuff,a day,it transpired that he was scared from dentists so much so abscesses were appering from the gums through to his face out side his face ,,his jaw actually broke with the state of the bone,he was admitted back to hospital 2months ago where they tried to sort the issue of the jaw and teeth ,fitted a steel plare ,,2weeks later ,still in hospital he died of pneumonia,,a keen freemason as i am and Robert Burns historian he loved fishing and music ,very sad ,,RIP mate, make your stay sort RWM,

etive, that sounds very grim, and I am sorry you lost your mate in such distressing circumstances.
My friend nearly lost her husband this year. He went into hospital with a chest infection, organs started shutting down, on life support for weeks, lasting organ damage. Major issue: his liver was shot due to a drink problem he had hidden, and she had kept hidden from everyone for years. It meant that a simple infection nearly killed him, He is now permanently disabled, will never regain his full function and energy and is partially confined to a wheelchair, It has wrecked my friend's life.
He was also afraid of doctors due to mental health issues, and I don't think maintain secrecy for the sake of a 'respectable front' helped either of them.
