Further to my earlier posts. All flights have now been bookeed and confirmed plus car hire from Kirkwall airport. However one thing concerns me is the apparent distance you have to walk at Aberdeen Airport. Has any body done this. If so is it as far as it seems?

There's someone on UKCS local enough to know it.
I've checked the map and it looks smaller than Stanstead & a bit bigger than Prestwick. Let's put it this way, it has 5 food & drink outlets and 6 shops.
If you have mobility issues, just alert them & I'm sure they'd have transport to help.
Aberdeen airport is a very small airport and nothing is that far to walk to once inside. Once through Security its a walk through the usual duty free shop and some small shops/eating/drinks etc and one big waiting area with the all the gates on one side of that room as far as I can remember.
We flew to Tenerife from there a couple of weeks ago and we had a short 100yard walk on the runway to the plane.
As someone said if you have mobilty issues, just let them know.

Thanks for the info. At the moment we have no mobility issues just a lazy so and so. All the facts I ascertained indicate that flightd to Kirkwall depart from gate 12 which seems to be the on from domestic arrivals.

Not sure of your flight times from Aberdeen but if its near lunch or dinner time. There is a decent place to eat not far from the airport. I can't comment on the general menu as I ate from the carvery and it does get good reviews on trip advisor and not expensive.
Its called Dyce Farm dining and carvery. If you were to ask at the airport for directions , it is only a 10 minute walk mostly using a covered walkway.
It sits behind the Crown Plaza Airport hotel where we stayed the night before as we live 120 miles from Aberdeen.

Sorry to disappoint you don't go through"Duty Free" if flying within the UK. I believe The Orkney Islands are still part of the UK. Therefore no visit to "Duty Free"
Apparently if fling to The Orkney Islands or Shetland the flights normally depart from gates 7-12. The ones with the furthest walk.
