My move away from France after 10 exceptionally happy and profitable years there was in part prompted by the unbending inheritance laws.
I have a daughter by my first marriage, my English will was written in the full knowledge and understanding of my daughter, if I was to die before my wife, everything was left to her etc. etc.
But on reading up on French inheritance laws I sought out French legal advise and guidance and was duly advised that my English will would not be recognised in France...... On my death my daughter would automatically be entitled to receive 25% of my estate (even if she didn't want to) and her inheritance and all taxes would have to be paid within 6 months.
------------- There is a great World to be found out there, but by the very day, to find where it is becomes more of a challenge!
