Getting a message on my Samsung Tab 4 about an update it wants to install. Not sure of its origin but cannot see a way to delete/ignore it. Am I being super suspicious? I'm not very techy and when it says it may reconfigure things I worry. Usually it just updates facebook, messenger etc automatically.
I don't understand what all these updates are about. I had 5 updates to download and install on my Samsung phone last night. Took about 10 minutes to do them all and the apps they were updating are no different to what they were before.
Operating system updates are usually for security purposes as new virus, malware and ransome ware is being developed by the baddies all the time.
Similarly with apps as the developer notices areas where performance could be improved, or takes advantages of new features in the Operating System updates, or perhaps just tweaks under the hood. They also incorporate security improvements where applicable.
It is always a good idea to keep both the Operating System and the Apps up to date. Especially the Apps you use regularly. This will minimise your risk of problems on line.
The apps may well appear no different after the update but the good work has been carried out in the background.
Thank you for the reassuring reply. It's a bit worrying reading their terminology about 'reconfiguring' etc. It rather spooked me. As Bob says, these updates appear rather frequently.
It spooks me when apps say they need access to certain things that don't seem relevant to the actual app, like camera, messages, etc. If you want the app there doesn't seem any way to stop them accessing these things although so far I have had no problems.
