Hi everyone. I've recently received a Cochlear Implant. It's just occurred to me that when out camping/caravanning in an off grid situation. I will have to find some way of charging the batteries.
I'm unable to find in the manual where anything other than the official power supply that feeds the battery "ChargingCaddy" can be used. Also the dire warnings that only the official transformer supplied by the company must be used:-
(240v AC - 5v DC)

Well the transformer is like many more and provides a 5volt DC Supply to the caddy via a USB connector.
It occurs to me that any good quality device designed for using in the car for phone/ipad charging should really be suitable.

So my question:- is anyone in the same situation and how do they get around the problem.
I have e-mailed the supplying company to see if they have a purpose built device but not received a reply so far.

Best wishes to all
Brian

if you only have 12 volt available then use an invertor and your usual transformer that you have at home. if you have ehu then just plug in the 3 pin socket the same as you would normally do at home. you can always have a caravan socket changed to one that has a usb on it

Hello marg6.
Thank you for your reply.
I will be ok on those sites that I have Hook up.
I was thinking specifically about where I will have to use the caravan or cars twelve volt system. I do have a device that plugs in the car that has two USB sockets. Each will give the required 5 volt supply and I'm probably going to use it.
My query really stems from the manufacturers warnings that the charging Caddy shouldn't be used with any other transformer/power supply than the one they provide.
I'm a little frustrated that they haven't responded to my email yet asking if they have an approved purpose made device to work from twelve volt outlets.
Thank you again for your reply
All best wishes Brian

If it charges via USB then any USB will charge it safely. Plug it into your Laptop whilst camping and it will charge - you will charge your laptop in whatever way you usually charge it.

USB means Universal Serial Bus the Universal bit is the key

Best Regards

David

probably because they haven't really got any ideas what your actually talking about! im not being nasty but they wont have likely ever encountered caravanning/camping. and to be fair I think your over thinking things, just use an inverter pluged into either your car or caravans 12 volt which then makes the output 240v, then using the supplied transformer for the implant you simply plug that in as you would at home. im guessing this implant is something very new to you? how often does it need charging?

Have a word with these people. They may be able to help.

Who supplied the equipment to you? Can they help?

Yes I've had the implant activated for one week now. The batteries last about ten hours before needing re-charge. I've tried the charging this afternoon using the USB unit that I have, plugged into the cars 12volt outlet and it appears to work fine.
So in the absence of a purpose made one from the supplier I'm going to rely on that for my "Off Grid" outings
Thank you all for your comments.
Best wishes Brian
