It is not illegal to drive a car with a faulty airbag but it will fail an MOT if the warning light is showing...answer...disable the warning light before the MOT.

That won't work under the new MoT rules Bob. They have to check that all the lights that are fitted do actually work.

It will if you cancel the fault using an OBD reader. However, you will only have three cycles before it comes back on again. This could be three switch ons of the ignition or three triggers. The chances are it would switch back on during the test.

What most annoys me, that a lot of the MOT is 'down to the testers opinion' - where one tester thinks that x,y, or z is a fail, another will put it as an 'advisory', or ignore it completely (son has a front number plate that is slightly damaged - below the letters/numbers & not affecting them - it's been like that since he bought the car about 8 years ago, and only mentioned as an 'advisory' on 3 of the MOTs, but never two years on the trot)

It would be extremely difficult to do it any other way Gerry. There are lots of grey areas, and MOT testers are human the same as any of us. I hope that if anything dangerous was showing, no MOT tester would pass it.

On my old car that I got rid of recently the engine management light was permanently on. It had been that way for at least 5 years and 50,000 miles. When it first came on I replaced the part that it was telling me was faulty (boost pressure solenoid valve) but it made no difference and the light came back on within days showing the same fault. Thinking I had bought a faulty replacement, I replaced it again. Again it made no difference. The car ran perfectly throughout this performance, even before the light came on the first time. The MOT station I used regularly knew the problem and passed the car many times with the light on. Sometimes they simply put it out for me, but in the last couple of tests they didn't bother.
