I don't know which would be best but based on experience of buying cookers from Currys, if it is being delivered check it all over for dings, dents and other damage before accepting delivery. Their storage/delivery people have never heard of 'handle with care'.

Neither, mine is a Hotpoint and the build quality is no where near as good as my old one was. Im about to have a full kitchen refurbishment done, and both the Bosch and Neff ovens are far better quality and build.

On the Hotpoint, the control knobs are made from silver coloured plastic, and at only two years old, there are signs of corosion where the Glass is bonded to the main body of the oven.

Unfortunately this seems to be ta case for a lot of these things these days.

My last oven was a Zanussi straight from the factory, lasted over 20 year with only the main heating element needing replacing (an easy DIY job) … just replaced it last year with another Zanussi from AO.com … had to get AO to replace it after the first did not work properly and Zanussi no longer employing their own engineers … the ones they use sends someone out just to agree with you and to tell you it will over a week to get the part.

I had a Samsung TV (big old one) lasted over 15 year … changed it for a flat screen thin one … it only lasted 4 year before having to be replaced.

All our appliances are neff, we had hotpoint but they were a bit poor

Bosch is a cheaper alternative to neff

I bought a Bush oven from Argos a couple of years ago, it was about half the price of many others. It is well made and works very well.

Thank you everyone
The reasons for going with Hotpoint is i get them much cheaper via the Domestic and general smartcare rewards scheme 225 & 160
The self cleaning oven also
would i need all the extra fancy bits on the more expensive oven?
probably not.
i forgot about Argos but will check them out as my son gets discount from them
thanks again

When I wanted to replace my free standing electric cooker a couple of years ago I started off at Currys. I discovered the first cooker (which I think was a Beko) damaged after the delivery men had gone so I got a replacement sent, which I could see was badly dented before they even reached my front door, so I refused delivery and got my money back.

I then went to A.O. The first one they delivered arrived damaged so I refused delivery, and the second one, a more expensive Hotpoint, packed up after 3 months use. They replaced it with another Hotpoint which I have now had for about two years and it is doing well...so far!

It took 5 cookers to finally get one that was not damaged and is still working. In fact the final one was slightly dented on the back but I had lost the will to live by then and since it wasn't visible I overlooked it.

trying to buy a cooker from currys and got the usual warranty sales pitch. as always, i refused.

what will you do if it breaks then said smarmy 12 year old salesman.

i pointed out that i would claim off the manufacturers warranty

i was told that this particular model didnt come with a manufacturers warranty and i would need to buy their warranty.

i told him to stop being silly so we moved onto the installation.

and was told that they "had" to install it.

i refused and insisted on just buying the cooker.

the salesman told me it was illegal to install it myself.

i pointed out that i was an electrician, and it wasnt illegal.

he then asked me where i thought i was going to buy the magical piece of "wire" to connect it.

so i pointed out of the window at B&Q, Wickes, Screwfix and Toolstation.

he then told me i wasnt allowed to buy the "wire"....(its cable btw) and that they would ask me what it was for and when i said "cooker wire" they wouldnt sell me it.....

this went on for a good few mins till i called a manager over and told him why i wasnt going to be spending £600 on one of their cookers....

Mine came from Ikea. One of the few places left that you can actually see what something's like before you buy. The family card also gives a certain amount of damage insurance while you're getting it home.

Maybe check the oven reviews on Consumer Association website, "Which?".
And one critical thing is to know is whether you want an oven door that drops down flat (too risky for us as the dog jumps over the dish washer door that's like that) or a door that opens sideways.

John Lewis has both ovens at a slightly better price. I bought my oven from them 2 years ago and was pleased with the installation and extra guarantee I got from them at no extra charge.

In addition, I rang John Lews and they were able to tell me where it was on display for me to look at.

Of the two you have shown I would go for the class 4 with assisted steam cleaning rather than the class 2 that just has catalytic liners.

https://www.johnlewis.com/browse/electricals/cooking/built-in-ovens/hotpoint/_/N-a........

Also, try Youtube for video's of cookers you are interested in that really helped me. I went for pyrolytic cleaning which I absolutely adore, the tilting grill is also great for cleaning.

cooking functions, I only use grill, fan, top and bottom heat, top and bottom heat wth fan other functions sit unused.
