Thanks for all the replies, arrived safely at Whitehall Farm CS near Caerleon, and it's not to buy a vacuum but to attend the funeral of my brother's FIL today, then a few days walking/exploring.

I have a Dyson V10 (having had 2 Dyson uprights and Dyson cylinder in the past) and I love it. Easy and light to use, powerful if you need it to be, and for me the battery lasts plenty long enough.

The trouble with Dysons is that you need to remortgage to buy one. I have a Vax main vacuum cleaner which is light and does a very good job. I have had it years and can't now remember what I paid but nowhere near what a Dyson cost at the time.
More recently I have bought a Morphy Richards rechargeable stick vacuum which looks very similar to the Dyson V10 but slightly less bulky and cost me around £80. It does such a good job that I rarely use the main vacuum cleaner now. Why pay £400-£500 for a Dyson?

It depends what you mean when you say "the battery lasts plenty long enough".
I think it will probably last just past the warranty.
I would never touch another Dyson.
