i traded my tiguan r line in for a 6 seater vivaro,,ok i lost a lot of toys ,,and i,m not sure iv done the right thing ,but i have probaly saved my own life,as the volkswagen was top of its range for engines and was a flying machine
now i have a van i can enjoy driving again taking it easy knowing i,ll still get there plus i have all the space i neede for dogs and picnic /fishing gear,,i dont tow as i have a static,,,as i said i gave up a lot of toys but imenjoying my van ,and i noticed this summer a lot of people have the same idea,,why get a 70 grand range rover when you can be cool in a van,,

At a specialist breakers & garage for my van I was chatting with a load of taxi drivers who drive same base van as mine. They only used the premium diesel to get max mpg & keep the engines running clean. I was told to avoid supermarket fuel as long term it would kill my engine (these guys go around the clock every year). I was aware of the lack of additives added to supermarket fuel (aye, I know the 'same tanker' argument) but was surprised my mpg is up from 36 to 43 on the premium even on relatively mixed driving. Couldn't achieve more than 38mpg on long steady autoroute drives last year in France no matter how hard I tried.

a few years ago we had a sherpa van which did 38 mpg and gave us a good view of the road ahead, i'd like another,

That old fuel argument crops up over and over again. I say it depends on the vehicle, how its driven, and what sort of driving. I once carried out a totally unscientific experiment with my then 17 year old Volvo V70 diesel. I always bought my fuel at Sainsburys. One day I decided to try a tankful of the most expensive branded fuel just to see what difference it made to my normal day to day driving. As a result I found that performance seemed exactly the same, but the fuel economy was actually very slightly worse on the more expensive fuel, so I went back to using only Sainsburys. The car had done 186,000 miles when I sold it last year, it was still running very well, and it is still on the road today at 19 years old.
Others will tell you exactly the opposite, I'm sure.
How much is fact, and how much is hype, I couldn't possibly comment.
