It's rarely as dire as forecasts suggest.
Use weather apps such as met office which gives a 24 hour view of expected rain hotspots.
We went to Wales last week, we left in rain and it was supposed to rain all week. In the end, we had trivial showers apart from one day when it rained all day. Lots of suncream required.
A couple of days when rain predicted we went to a beach an hour away and sat / paddled in the forecast sunshine.
