Hi I was wondering whats the best option. I wanted to put a tent, awning extension on top of my boat. Are there a specific name for tents that don't use pegs or use bungee cords. And any recommendations?
the name of what your looking for on your boat is called a bivvi, it has a folding frame and then a canvas which folds over that, all held in place by turnlocks
You could try contacting a Sailmaker such as Jeckells of Wroxham, I'm sure they would be able to make you something to specifically fit your boat, and be sturdy enough not to take off in the slightest breeze.

Adding a mass of canvas or similar material to any boat, even the larger river cruisers, can effectively make them harder to handle, especially when trying to navigate and moor up in strong winds.
Sailing boats are designed to somewhat combat this effect by having g the facility to quickly drop the sails and swing around the jib, plus a deep keel to help keep them upright. Adding any canope to a boat not designed to take one can end up being a costly mistake, and one that is not fully realised by the owner until after they have spent their mega bucks having their fancy new topper added and found themselves then struggling to handle their craft in the slightest breeze!
Take a walk around any Boat shed brokerage and you will find a fair few examples of such craft up for sale, their owners trying to pass on a big problem that was once their much loved pride and joy!
