Bob61, much there I completely agree with. I only ever give my phone number to those that really need it, and I am even more picky who I give my mobile to. It's switched off most of the time anyway, and it's only an old-style mobile, not a smart-phone. I never get scam calls on that. Calls to my home phone I let go to answering machine unless I recognise the number, and all my friends and relatives names come up on caller display. What always annoys me is online forms where you HAVE to give a phone number or they won't send. If I don't want them having my number I usually just make one up. I used to give the number of the phone box over the road until they took it away.

Telephone preference service seems to get less and less effective as the years go on. We have been registered with them for years. We also have anonymous caller rejection on our line, but still some get through and come up as "unknown" or "international", when nobody would phone me from abroad.

I use Hotmail too, I have 3 such accounts and one of those is only used for businesses. That's the one most scams come in on. I have 5 email addresses in all, and one is reserved for only family and very close friends. I never give that one to anyone else.

Despite all this I still seem to get scam emails. Perhaps not as many as some, but still enough. Phone calls from pests seem to go in batches. None at all for a couple of weeks, then several a day for a couple of weeks. I never pick up on them and they never leave a message, so I guess they are either scams or spam-calls.

Best Regards,
Colin

Yippee! Can I join the club? I have just had a scam phone call...01202925381. Don't phone it because it may divert to a premium line.

Well spoken English male voice but showed up on my phone as an International caller. Checked online and it has been reported as a scam caller originating in the Bournemouth area.

Caller stated he was calling in relation to my recently installed loft insulation which was deemed to be dangerous to health...no wonder I have a cough

I live in a council house and the loft insulation has been here a few years. I realised it was a scam and hung up but afterwards thought I could have had some fun with the caller - lol.

Welcome aboard Bob!

I never pick up on "international" calls. I don't know anyone outside Britain who would be likely to phone me. Any family members on holiday abroad would leave a message, and then I would pick up if I'm there.

I regularly get scam letters from 'Guildford Enforcement Division'

They try to scare me again by claiming "Official notice: Investigation opened."

The letter is not addressed to me, it is for someone called Mr The Legal Occupier, Theodore Occupier??? (sounds like a Frence name?)

Besides, my TV system works well without a License, moreso since I replaced the rusty old Sat-Dish and Quad LNB, as well as the cables.

I file all the scam letters in the shredder.

Just saying

Then I bought a tent.

I received a phone call yesterday ... purportedly from BT ... telling me that my IP was Public and should be Private ... offering to change it ... they would talk me through it over the phone ... I went along with it until they wanted me to make changes ... then I put the phone down.

Beware of similar ... BT would never phone to do something like this ...
