I have told my wife we are going to save and become rich and are no longer going to spend a fortune in Tesco...
...I gather I will be receiving the divorce papers shortly!

Watch out Bernie - the tax man cometh, unless he's in your back pocket as well.
He will live somewhere like Monaco where there is little or no tax

I've found a really easy way to cut down on shopping bills - and it's good for you. I've got a Lidls quarter of an hour away and a Sainsburys Local about the same distance. I just walk to each one and apart from the exercise, I buy less and stick to essentials because I have to carry it all back. Of course, if you don't have much time and have a family to feed, it's a different matter - or if you're as minted as the Ecclestones.......

We are lucky for shopping here. There is a Coop in the village, about 10 - 15 minutes walk, and 3 miles away a town that has a Morrisons, Sainsburys, Aldi, Asda, and a Tesco local, all within a few minutes walk of each other. There are also 3 other towns within a 6 mile radius. All that and we live in a very quiet village with a proper village atmosphere. We don't have much money, just state pensions, but we consider ourselves very lucky.
Very little more than essentials for us either, and I'm very careful with all the other bills too. At least I have the time to shop around for everything now, and I do, very thoroughly! We are not all rich down here in the south east, like some think.

Colin

The first and last time we tried to do a week's shop at Aldi it was awful. Our nearest one is a fairly new shop and yet the aisles were narrow and you could hardly get two trolleys down them together. I had to have a word with one staff member who was running around with cages full of stuff expecting the shoppers to jump out of his way. We simply could not get everything we needed for the week and eventually had to go next door to Waitrose to finish off the shopping which nullified any savings we might have made at Aldi.
The check outs were awful as well and they are so rushed and crowded they expect you to bung all the stuff back in the trolley and transfer it to your bags once you have left the checkout area.
I think I would sooner pay a bit more and shop in a comfortable, light and airy atmosphere. At the moment Sainsburys is my choice although after getting a whopping (even for me) shopping bill there this week I will probably go back to Tesco.

Probably good and bad everywhere Bob. Our nearest Aldi is great. Plenty of room since they extended the shop, and there isn't much that we want that we can't get in there. Even got myself a caravan step and an awning carpet from there at very reasonable prices. When we go there I walk down to Sainsburys for the few bits that we can't get, usually less than £15 worth and that's for the month. My wife goes round Aldi and I meet her in there.

Colin

a very nice bloke knocks on my door at a date and time of my choosing and carries my shopping, pre-sorted in separate bags into my kitchen for me.
plus with free deliveries and 20% staff discount i`d be mad not to...
once a month i travel over to the company shop and stock up on chicken, lamb and steaks for the chest freezer.
looked at my last bill from there,
475g (2x) rump steaks, £1:25 per pack
whole large chicken, £1.75
1kg wings, £1:25
1Kg breasts £1:40
2.5kg thighs and legs £1:75
then as we supply them we get discount on the whole bill.
we only really shop for bread, milk and grapes during the week.
and beer....
