The latest mattress thread got me thinking.
Even though I sleep well at home I always seem to sleep better when away in my motorhome.
I eat the same things. Drink just as much as I do t home. Watch the same amount of TV and so on.
It must be something to do with fresh air and exploring new or revisiting old places.
Even though I am fairly active when at home it can’t be the same.
Anybody else out there who like me sleep like a baby in their motorhomes/caravans when away ?
Must admit I don't really sleep much different. Don't always sleep quite so well in the caravan on the first night, but even that's not always true. It's the same anywhere though on the first night away from home surroundings. I live in a country area, it's very quiet here, and the air's not bad either.
For me, I think it’s the fresh air makes me sleep better. There’s not much of it about where I live in the middle of a city so getting into the countryside is great!
An interesting point. I'm lucky to get five hours sleep at home, yet on holiday, I sometimes manage eight. I love breathing cool air when I sleep, so would probably be happy in a tent as well as the caravan.
Nope. The dog sleeps downstairs in a crate at home, on the bed with us in the MH. She treats the first night like a pyjama party, also wakes with the dawn chorus ( I particularly remember pheasants at 04:00) and needs to check we're still breathing regularly. This is done by sitting on my chest, her wet nose to my dry one. Or lying over OH's neck, waiting for the choking noise.
No, there's no room for a crate. Yes, it gets better as the trip goes on and she has more on-lead nose work or off-lead exercise so she's more tired.
I also put the better sleep down to a quiet campsite, with none of the road noise that I have at home.
We sleep better in the van, although waking up at 11am in a French aire is never ideal. A totally unconnected comment is that we don't seem to suffer hangovers - even with cheap red wine ;-).

That's probably why so little difference to us. Any campsite we go on is likely to be noisier than at home. It certainly couldn't be quieter, as you could hear a pin drop at home during the night. The noisiest thing would be the very occasional plane going into Stansted, but only if the wind is from the east, which it usually isn't. Most nights....absolute silence, lovely!
We always sleep better and longer when we are away in our camper. We put it down to escaping the pressure of life,No doorbell going, no work pressures, no clock watching, no timetable to stick to. Fresh air an more time to walk, cycle etc.
As well is two words!

Some very valid points there JP.
Yes indeed. When I was working I would have completely agreed.
We are retired though so no similar pressures and we live in a very quiet area, well off the main road and with no through traffic. A lot of our neighbours are also retired so very little noise there either.
Always sleep well in a tent, even in a hoolie. With our campervan it's so dark when we have the blackout curtains drawn & the blinds up we often sleep far longer as we don't notice it getting light.

I always sleep well in a caravan but even better in a tent, especially if wild camping. I think its mainly due to a feeling of contentment as others have mentioned.
