Was talking to a friend about a draught beer i had in a cafe in St Omer, the beer was very strong. I can’t remember the name of it, but I remember seeing lots of wagons in the motorways advertising that beer. The livery could have been in brown and gold??
Really annoying me, tried looking for popular beers on line.
Can anyone put me out of my misery?
I was in a small restaurant at Berck sur Mere and ordering my food when the waiter asked what I would like to drink. "Just a beer" I replied, "What type?" he asked, "I don't mind, whatever you have pressant" (draught). "We have ten different beers pressant and over a hundred different bottled beers here." He explained.
He seemed disappointed when I told him that I wasn't familiar with French beer and would let him choose.
Sometimes you can have too much choice when you just want something pleasantly refreshing with a nice meal.
Both the beer and the food were good there though.

Ah, la Goudale brewed by les Brasseurs de Gayant. I don't remember having that so it's one for the must try list.
Rob
It's fairly common in its canned form in Supermarkets in this part of the world (Dordogne).
It's cheap - usually about 1.75 euro for a 500cl can.
It's strong - 7.2%
It's - shall we say - an acquired taste - as are most French beers with the exception of their lagers. A lot of their "craft" beer (getting more common by the month) looks and tastes like homebrew.
Rarely use bars as it usually involves driving so I tend to stock up on bottles / cans from supermarkets. Carrefour has the best selection round here - including British beer - Brewdog, Camden - American - Goose, Lagunitas, Brooklyn - as well as the usual suspects from France and Belgium.
These keep me going through autumn / winter.
Once the sun is shining the cheapest bottled lager at around 4% abv
goes straight in the camping fridge in my "den".

I stayed in a hotel called “nautilus” on the way back from a work trip to France it was in Berck plage.
I had a large Stella from the hotel bar and it was dreadful. It tasted like cider. I told the waiter and he went back to the bar, the bar man poured himself a small wineglass full. He sipped it, winced and poured me a leffe. The leffe wasn’t much better it tasted like special brew.
I was planning to visit la touqet but the rooms were really expensive because the ibis I stayed at didn’t seem to be open. Berck plage was a lot further from Calais than la touqet.

That could be because Leffe weighs in at about 6.6 degrees abv which is pretty strong by British standards for an everyday draft beer.
