That's one reason why I'm reluctant to eating out at restaurants etc. because all too often, just one guilty staff member is not in the habit of washing their hands after visiting the toilet or handling raw meat etc.
Over a year ago we were in a farm shop local to us that we used frequently. Some people known to the butcher came in with their dog. The butcher bent down and played with the dog. He then went straight to the meat counter with out washing his hands and handled raw meat. We never went back until two weeks ago to find butcher closed and place under new management.
Raw meat shouldn't be too much of a risk as it is normally cooked well before eating. I'd be more concerned about the practices you don't see like plating up by hand in restaurants. Or weighing and selling cooked meat plus handling cash, as on markets.
Our butcher friend used to sharpen his pencil with his knife before cutting his meat.
What about the chippy who licks his thumb to pick up a bit of paper to wrap your fish and chip supper in...used to be worse when they were wrapped in newspaper
No, we didn't either, and we lived on a farm. However I do remember supervised hand washing before dinner whilst in class 1 at Primary School, with carbolic soap that was cut up into pieces.
There was a doctor on ITV this morning saying it's easy to make your own antivirus gel.
Look it up but I think it was rubbing alcohol (over 60% proof) mixed with essential oils and a bit of Alovera.
