To be effective it needs to be for everyone. All who are legitimate will be able to prove their ID in the first place in order to get one.

Then any dealings with the state would use it as THE means of identity to get pensions, benefits etc. Without the one you would get nothing.

This way anyone who for whatever reason can’t prove their status or ID would be flushed out.

I have no problem with carrying an ID card - its a very effective tool.

I originated from a former colony where ID cards are mandatory. I renewed mine when I went back for a visit after a 22-year gap, with an all singing one with bio-metric features.

Hence I am bemused to read about the fuss being kicked off every time the subject of ID card being mentioned in the motherland!

I have said it in the past, and shall say it again - I have nothing to hide, so bring on ID card!

We all have ID cards anyway if we drive a car. We have one if we are old enough for a bus pass and even store cards, credit and debit cards are a form of ID, so I can't see why anyone would worry about having a specific ID card...providing we aren't charged an arm and a leg for one!

wouldnt bother me either.

carried one most of my life.

now we are getting issued veterans id cards.

the cynical amongst us........reckon its so they can keep tabs on us.
