Perhaps if the garage can practice distancing measures that are safe for staff and customers they should be able to open. We know a mechanic who has remained open during the whole lockdown period because there is only two mechanics who work there and customers have had to pay by card only or transfer the money electronically.
Our small local AA approved garage has been open throughout. Only a couple of mechanics so they can distance easily, only ever one person in the office.
My MOT in May has been moved back 6 months automatically and I get my car serviced at the same time.
I had the car tested last week. And a new battery on the truck. The place has been open throughout. My regular place has just opened this week. Will be taking it there for a service.
Mrs. L's car went in for its annual service on schedule. We dropped the car off, put the keys through their letterbox and went home. When it was ready, they phoned us, we paid over the phone and collected the car.

I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.
franbee, that 'pet garage' comment made me laugh out loud! There's a breed of cat called the Turkish Van. 'Treads on the rear paws are down a bit, mate, you need to keep an eye on that...'
(Yes, I'm losing it...)

Fiona is book now as everyone will
Be looking for the same mot slots, or even do it early
Got the wife's car in today for MOT. Passed as usual I'm glad to say. Drove in, left it with them while I sat outside watching and then paid by card and drove away. Social distancing applied at all times.
My MOT is due in July, and I normally have a service at the same time. They usually give me a courtesy car to go home with or someone runs me home and collects me when it's ready though, so I'm not sure about that. Not sure whether they are open anyway as I haven't been out in weeks. I usually get a letter from them when the MOT is due.
most main dealers are closed along with a lot of local small garages. i work at an rac approved garage and do local authority vehicles we were asked to stay open to help with mobility and front line vehicles. as much as your mot has been extended if you have an accident and it comes down to a fault on your car the insurance companies are going to refuse your claim, the dvsa are saying you must make sure your vehicle is safe to be on the road so basicly asking you to be a mecanic / mot tester. mot testing has not been stopped so you can still have your mot and service to make sure the vehicle is safe to be on the road.
My local garage never shut, MOT stopped for a month but resumed just before end of April so got my MOT when i should have.
Was not keen on the extension to be honest, even thou it was serviced and had all new tyre's on.
Sooner keep the Service and MOT together, a month before MOT runs out.
I had my car serviced just before the lockdown as I predicted that many garages would close due to the pandemic. At least I don't have to wait in a long queue now waiting trying to get a slot to get the car serviced.
Our local privately run garage/MOT centre has always been open, most dealerships are now opening.
