I have a very hairy golden retriever and someone has suggested one if these. As they are £40+, just looking for your thoughts/comments. I’ve read the reviews but always worry that they are not real.

I've got a long coated Border Collie, and she sheds fur like no other dog I've ever known (and I've had dogs all my now ancient life since I was born!). I've got a cheepo Lidl/Aldi (can't remember which!) version of Furminator, and it really doesn't gather that much fur. Certainly wouldn't be inclined to spend £40 on one!

She's got a incredibly dense 'Double Coat' and I find the spiky wire bristle brush for general grooming and a course tooth comb plus fine tooth 'flea' comb for fine undercoat are the most effective tools for clearing shedding fur. My dog really isn't keen on being groomed, so it's a bit of a battle, but I persevere as she needs it to keep her coat in good order and tangle free. No two dogs are the same, so what suits one may not be perfect for another.

I've long since given up hope of keeping clothes and carpets fur free, that's just going to be a way of life for the duration, and a small price for what she brings to my life.

£40 ? That seems a lot, seen them much cheaper. I actually bought a copy for about a tenner, it's pretty effective, but my dog didn't seem to like it , not sure why, she's ok with being brushed etc normally

We used a Furminator when we had a lab who used to shed for England. I used to fill a carrier bag with the hair that came off her. It was a necessity for summer and worth every penny!

Got one for my cairn terrier very good buy only paid around £20. It does the job and the birds in spring like the hair for nest building.

We had one for our lab and it was good. Have to say though that the fur situation put me off having such a hairy dog - we have a little working cocker spaniel now and no need for fancy devices and the lawn no longer looks like its covered in a layer of black snow!

We need a new dog brush, but there are so many choices! We have a dog with a medium length coat but thinnish hair, and a dog with a short coat but he's quite furry. Any recommendations? Or will we have to get 2 different ones?

I've got one. They're great if you use them regularly but hard to get through the fur if you don't.
I've a looky likey one too but that isn't as good.

They also die if you leave them in the freezer.

Mine hasn’t arrived yet but will review on here when I’ve given it a go. I use a comb
( recommended by groomer) It works okay and I get lots off her but I’m hoping that I will be able to remove more. The birds love the ‘fluff’ and we regularly see them with beaks full of white fur when building nests.

Look around. I got mine second hand. It's fantastic. I have an indoor cat who moults a lot. It removes so much fur it's unbelievable. More than worth it
