This will probably sound crazy to anyone who has not tried it but a few years ago we bought a pure wool duvet. We had the option of heavy, medium or light so we plumped for medium. It is lovely and warm in the winter and as summer approached the first year we had it, I kept waiting to get too hot and have to change to a lightweight duvet but it never happened. There is something about the wool that keeps you warm in winter but let’s your body breathe so in summer it never feels too warm!

We always had feather/down quilts but then bought a silk filled one, thinking that it would be as breathable. But it's not, you do get quite warm.

It's sounds counterintuitive but the best thing to do is keep the windows and curtains closed. Keep the sun well and truly out and stop the room from heating up in the first place.
The trouble is that the walls of the house are about 30 inches thick of stone. The whole house warms up over a few days and stays warm overnight. Open or closed, the window and curtains don't seem to make a lot of difference.

Can't stand Duvets, ALWAYS too hot for me, I'm an old fashioned sheets and blankets type, cold - put another blanket on, hot - take a blanket off! Until depths of winter, probably only got a bedspread over a sheet, when it gets colder, blankets come out.
I also hate overheated bedrooms, just can't sleep, no trouble going to sleep in an icy bedroom once I'm snuggled under the blankets.

Monty, we've never used blankets. We have light and medium duvets that we can use separately or together as appropriate. Of course, we can do without them altogether - but we'd never go back to blankets.

We are complete opposites there Monty. If it's nice and warm, I'm gone, as long as it's not REALLY hot. Being cold will keep me awake for hours!
When we lived in an old house in Norfolk in the 80s, the bedrooms were FREEZING in winter. No central heating. Ice on the inside of the windows. This coupled with working weird hours as a coach driver and my sleeping was terrible. By the time we moved to where we are now I was driving trains, so still working weird hours, but the house was always nice and warm so I slept like a log. Still do normally.
------------- Best Regards,
Colin

If you’ve got a loft open the loft hatch. The hot air rises into there feeling cooler below. If really hot I’ve resorted to sleeping downstairs...

Our house is slightly 'upside down' with the lounge upstairs and he main bedroom & bathroom, downstairs. This is quite common in older houses in this area. Our house dates from about 1830's with a 'modern' extension in the 1890's.
