Hi there a question for any builders out there, while digging a hole for a fence post in our garden today we found this pipe, it was buried about 12 inches down made of plastic with a gravel bed under it, there are slits about every 2 inches apart along its length and water was trickling from the slits, the soil gets very waterlogged so I'm wondering if its drainage related maybe, any ideas?.
many thanks in advance.

Looks like land drain. The slits let the water in so it can drain away. Don’t fret too much if you’ve hit / broken it, they are easy to repair.
No not broken it the hole started filling with water before we even found the pipe but you can see a mark where the spade could have caught it, how would you repair it if it is cracked ?.

I personally wouldn’t bother but if you really wanted to (or had put a gaping hole in it) then wrap some old plastic sheeting around the pipe before you concrete the post in. Obviously it doesn’t need to be water tight. for just a crack it’s not really necessary.
