We have ten pairs of glasses to dispose of.
We usually take them to Opticians but they are not accepting any at present.
Does anyone know which Charity Shops might take them?
John
Just chuck them in the plastic recycle bin, and all will be fine.
The maximum cost of glasses from a high street optician should be capped at £50 whatever the make or brand, as the manufacturing cost no matter how challenging the prescription is, will be under £20 in this modern age.
And should remain free for kid’s, pensioners and those on benefits.
Take them to Specsavers. They get checked & go out to third world countries, where people have to stop working because they don’t have glasses when their eyesight deteriorates.
We’re lucky here, racket or not. Some people in other parts of the world can’t afford eye care.
Whilst I have some sympathy with the racket viewpoint, if someone else can benefit from specs that don't fit one's prescription any more, why not recycle them? Why be so selfish?
John, just hang onto them and wait till your opticians are in a position to take them.

Yes, presumably you've collected the 10 pairs over a number of years, so hang on a bit longer.
And Francais, don't chuck them in the plastic recycling bin, they're not recyclable like bottles.
And lenses that come from Carl Zeiss in Germany are worth more than £20.
Oxfam charity shops take them. Between us we must have recycled dozens over the years. Glasses cost a fortune so, when they're no use to us anymore, it makes sense to pass them on to those who are in dire need.

Because of Covid Specsavers are no longer taking them, which is why I asked about Charity Shops.
Also Vision Aid Overseas the charity that sends them over seas ceased to operate earlier this year.
Don’t have an Oxfam shop locally, but will look into it.
My local hospital has an eye department, they used to have a charity operated collection of donated old glasses for reuse in needy countries. No idea if it was the now defunct charity mentioned above, but maybe any hospitals/clinics near you may take them.
