We have folding electric bikes which we use when caravanning., I want a bigger bike for more regular use.

I love my Pendleton, but would not recommend buying one.
My battery died and replacements are not available - at all. We found a company which did a rebuild but cost megabucks. Avoid!

Thanks all.
I have eliminated some, now considering a bike from Woosh bikes.
A Santana 3 or a Santana CD.
These were recommended by someone on Pedelec forum.
Can anyone help with an opinion please?

Off the two, I would go for the CD, even though it looks like it’s been made from a kit, but for £1000 it’s a case of you get, what you pay for.

there are some really good ebikes for around £1000 so dont be put off.

yours wont get hammered or run into the ground so as long as you have a warranty and somewhere to get it fixed, the choice is really yours.

some prefer rear hub motors (like me) some prefer crank drive.

at the level that the woosh bikes are built i would go for the crank drive, as the rear hub pedal assist will be cadence based and not torque based...

sorry, i read that back and with no offence intended, thought i`d better explain.

with pedal assist, it does exactly what it says, you pedal and it joins in and gives you a push.

cadence based means that it has a ring of magnets and a sensor, and as the magnets move, it signals the motor to join in. this is purely based on the speed the magnets pass the sensor.

a torque based pedal assist has 4 springs mounted inside the chain ring and these sense the amount of force you are putting on the pedals and bring the motor in to match that force.

torque is rarer, but better.

i would however pay the extra for the 17ah battery.

i get between 40 and 50 miles out of mine on 2nd level pedal assist (20mph)

I bought second hand Giant and came with a spare battery all for £200-00 and use it every day about 30 miles a day

No hard sell from Woosh, just the opposite in fact. Had a long chat with sales lady, she has taken the order and card details but will not process it until tomorrow when I can confirm I want to go ahead.
She explained the difference between riding my front hub drive folder and the crank drive on the new one. She wanted to make sure that I was ok with the new bike.

So, I have the Santana CD with 17ah battery.
Been on a couple of 10k rides and i am very pleased with the bike. I like the upright riding position, sprung seat and fork suspension.
So far so good.

thats brilliant news.

i used mine yesterday for work. first time out so far this year and thoroughly loved it.

you will find yourself heading further and further afield.

best bit of advice you will get with electric bikes.........

forget whatever you have been told about range, as none of it applies in the real world.
ride the bike (over a few days if necessary) but dont charge it. keep your eye on the total mileage until it`s almost dead.
use that mileage as your yardstick and it will alleviate range anxiety. I did this and i know that i can get 40-50 miles and still have a few bars left. makes planning rides out much simpler.

Francais, been out today to a local park which has a steep hill. A couple of lads on non e bikes dismounted and pushed their bike up the hill.
I sailed past them all, no problem. I was in lowest of 9 gears and on No 5 max assist.
If i was a bit fitter i could have done it on power 4 and a slightly higher gear.
The gears are a sort of paddle change, which i am getting used to.
Also on cycle paths, going slowly through these narrow anti motorbike gates i have to be careful when the bike suddenly takes off from a standing start.
It is doing me good and I am always looking forward to the next ride.
I have done 20k and the battery indicator has hardly moved.

i was disappointed it started raining before i went to work, so i took the car.

it just makes riding so much fun.

work to home in the car takes between 5 and 8 mins.

cycling takes 7 mins.

i prefer to cycle.

the battery bar wont move much at first, but will drop quicker when you reach half full.
