Just had a quote from current insurers and price has gone up by £55 with increase in excess and reduction in cover. I've made no claims and nothing has changed. Has anyone else in the same boat seen similar price hikes?

I always do shop around and usually change but just never had quite such a price hike from a previous insurer.

When our renewal came, it had gone from £259 to £483, plus an increase in excess. As I had not claimed, I queried this.
Immediately, without my asking, they offered to do it for £297!.
Went elsewhere, with a slightly better coverage, for £236.
It would seem that the inertia model just sees how much it can get away with

Ours has increased also so I got more quotes. Direct Line came out the best with good cover. It also includes all the extras like legal cover, bikes, personal goods, accidental damage, freezer cover, emergency breakdown etc. £229 pa paid annually. Also covers “matching sets” so if a kitchen cupboard can’t be replaced due to old stock they will replace all. Thought this was a very good price. £100 excess. It’s a bit less due to the fact that we have our car insurance with them as well.

Thanks Stuart. I also found that out with pet insurance. Went to Tesco in the end, not only cheaper, but at the time also 2500 extra Tesco points 😁 Useful towards a Eurotunnel crossing, or Stena crossing, worth £75 - whenever that may be!

All sorted now and price reduction but it's taken over a week and cost a fortune in phone calls.
Plus I've had the wonderful (and I thought long sorted) issue of the proximity of my house in distance terms to the sea and a river invoking the extra as liable to flooding with four separate insurers totally ignorant of contour lines and geology!!

We have had a very good price from Direct Line for the last few years and then this year, it shot up quite a bit despite never having made a claim. The best price we got this year was from Halifax.

It amazes me how company A can quote you, and then when company B gives a lower quote, company A will then ask what it is and tell you they can beat it. I always ask why they quoted higher to start with. Thats usually the end of the conversation.
