We find that people stop and chat to us a lot, but we do have 2 whippets and many people are interested in them (rather than us). Conversely, we have rarely struck up conversation with Brits abroad - they usually seem to suddenly be "busy" when we go past and often don't even smile - the French usually chat about the dogs (lol)!

Same with us re the BA's

The site we have just been on was very heavily populated by the Dutch and they are always keen to stop and chat, mainly about three things.

The two Weimaraners we have, Brexit and the number plate on car/caravan which bears the letters SCO.

They cannot believe the distance we have travelled to get to the beautiful South.

The danger, as a solo camper, is that people might think that being alone = being lonely. I was 'adopted' once by a couple in Scotland; very kind of them, but I'd been perfectly happy on my own. I was only staying a couple of nights, so it wasn't a big issue. I generally stick to 'nod and smile'-type greetings to reassure people that I'm not a superannuated axe murderer or something, and wish people a safe journey when they're packing up.

I think we have one of these ‘chatterboxes’ pitched opposite us at the minute but thankfully they only seem to be interested in dog owners. Earlier this week I was commenting to my husband about the large number of dogs on site (I’m not a dog hater, just very allergic so keep a look out for any that might come my way). Anyway, this couple pitched opposite us two days ago and they jump up and engage anyone walking past with a dog in conversation. Interestingly, the number of dogs walking past has significantly decreased today, everyone seems to be talking a different route to the exit onto the coast path!
