Running win 10, oldish PC (7 years or so). Any ideas, or is it time for a new one?
I've had the same issue with mine on odd occasions. Mine is probably much older and still running Windows 7, which I much prefer to 10, but turning it off and on again usually worked.

I remember that with Windows 2000 and the infamous blue screen!!! Windows 10 much more stable, especially on a decent machine.
Glad you fixed the issue. As an aside, it's good practice to shut down and restart your Win 10 machine on a regular basis. At work, we used to have weird things happen if we tried to keep Win 10 up for any length of time.
I used to have a 9 PC home network using Linux many years ago. Uptime was measured in years.

It gets shut down every day.
Oh! I'm surprised you had an issue but it's Windows after all.

theres too many updates with windows 10 i've tried blocking them by making it ask for manual updates but it didnt work, tried leaving it off rather than sleep it will work fine and fairly fast (fibre) but then the computor slows and it starts updates and then repeats till all updates done, mine cannot be upgraded to windows 11, it gets annoying when i have to do or order something online and the computor is slow to respond. mine is not quite 7 years old yet.

One of the reasons I won't switch to Windows 10. My computer is probably quite a bit more than 7 years old and it still works fine on Windows 7 so I'll be keeping it just as it is until it packs up completely.
Wasn't Windows 10 supposed to be the last ever Windows?? That didn't last long, did it?

No, it wasn't supposed to be the last ever windows. And as I've said before, if you're not updating your windows version, once the version you are using is no longer supported then you're leaving yourself open to virus attacks.
