Due to eyesight problems I bought a laptop last year which came with Windows 10 installed. [I need the larger screen and keyboard] I now have the option of a free upgrade to Windows 11 but am hesitant about installing something new. What are the advantages? I use my laptop for emails, online shopping facebook so do not need a lot of extras. Am I best off to keep Windows 10? What are other people's experiences of Windows 11? Many thanks. Wendy

I've got Windows 11 and it's been fine. My feeling is that it runs a bit faster than 10 but I changed my laptop at the same time as I moved so who knows.
Generally my feeling is that it's best to run as up-to-date software as you can. It's better supported and usually less vulnerable to nasties.

I regard Windows 10 (especially the 'S' version) as the work of Satan. If you have the 'S' version, definitely update to a version that you can customise yourself - eg load whatever software & extension you want and be able to edit the registry.

I've completely ditched Windows and use Linux which is faster and less cluttered. Unlike Windows which is full of 'Bloatware' - things you don't want, Linux comes in 'Vanilla' form and you add the applications you want.
And it's all FREE, and not prone to malware issues.

As far as Windows is concerned I still run Win 7 as I've tried 10 but don't like it much. I have done a few experiments with Zorin on a spare desktop I have, but still have a few problems to solve with it. I doubt I'll ever use a later version of Windows than the one I currently have.

I think Windows probably peaked with XP, and 7 is just a slight variation on that. Later Windows versions aren't better, just different in my opinion. The office computers in the hospital radio studio where I volunteer use Win10, and I can never find anything without great difficulty. With Win7 I could go straight to it.

Thanks for the replies. As Saxo1 says 'stick with what you know'. Think I will do that for a while and ignore the messages urging me to install Windows 11.

I agree. When Windows 10 came out I was bombarded with messages trying to persuade me to switch to that from 7, but I ignored them. I'm still perfectly happy with Win 7, it does all I want it to do. I started with Windows 3.11, and I used all the systems in between long after Microsoft stopped supporting them. I prefer to let others be Microsoft's final testing department.

I have not bothered to upgrade yet. If you want to see what the changes are between 10 and 11 I expect there will be lots of videos on YouTube explaining the differences.

In my opinion, most of the so-called upgrades are just Microsoft wanting to make some more money. From what I have seen of Window 10 it is no better in any way than 7. At least, nothing that I would need or use. The only thing that I found slightly better with 7 than with XP was that it made internet access slightly easier. If it hadn't been for that I would probably still be using XP.

I upgraded to Win 11 earlier this year and have regretted it ever since. Not as used friendly or straight forward as Win 10. If I could I would revert back to Win 10.

Depends on what you use the computer for.
In my case, photo processing with old versions of Photoshop and Lightroom, plenty fast enough. General internet browsing as I prefer a keyboard to touch screen although a lot can be done on the old Iphone far quicker using voice.
I run win 10 on the laptop with CCleaner to keep it at it's best performance.

Ah, CCleaner, I'd forgotten all about that, I'll have to check it out again.
