Hi all, back in the UK after a great trip to Vienna. Apart from a very slow bag drop queue at Aberdeen, the outbound trip went smoothly with no delays or checks at Heathrow. At Vienna, they simply stamped our passports and welcomed us to Austria.
Weather was good until Friday when there was light snow, turning to rain.
Lots of different Christmas markets, but most had the same things for sale.
As well as seeing lots of great art (Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele etc..) we visited a fantastic aquarium / zoo built into an 11 storey WW2 flak tower.
Great views from the top floor restaurant.
The return journey wasn't as easy with additional security at Heathrow and flight delays. Still, nothing like as bad as Schiphol!
Great to be home - and thinking about our next trips.

I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.
Surprised to hear the Dutch airport had issues, as it was great some years ago when I used it.

We've been to Vienna 4 times now, but never in winter for the Xmas markets. Three times with the motorhome, staying on the outskirts, and once by plane for our wedding anniversay which is April. That time we stayed at the Schonbrunn Hotel, opposite the park and Schonbrunn Palace. Attended a concert there one night, absolutely fabulous! Really like Vienna, about time we went again, thanks for posting.
Thank you for posting those, lovely. Yes, Schonbrunn is quite a bit out of the centre. We got a Vienna Card though, which was very useful for accessing public transport. Did a lot of sightseeing during those 4 days! Also visited a Heuriger near the hotel, a fantastic evening meal, made all the better by a visiting band, who played great music all evening. Great memories.
