I've just had a call from BT Openreach.
I told the caller that I am not BT customer.
He told me that BT Openreach control all internet in the UK.
I told the caller that BT do not control the UK internet and that he was being untruthful.
He asked me if I knew everything, I replied that I did and that I believed he was a scammer calling from India,(he had a distinct Indian accent).
He told me that I was being rude to a BT Official and that he could permanently cut my broadband connection.
He then ended the call.
I searched for BT Openreach scam and learned that scammers are currently impersonating BT call center staff and trying to learn personal and banking information.

That's an easy one ... There is no such company as 'BT Openreach'!
BT and Openreach are completely separate companies and, although they are part of the same corporate ownership, their relationship is the subject of very strict regulations.
Openreach do of course own the main broadband and phone network and BT and most other suppliers do use that network. However there are, of course, other networks!
Just had a call from an important official agency telling me they were aware of my serious debts and were there to help me.
I found this suspicious as I don't have any debts and the caller had an Indian accent.
I told the caller that since I wasn't in debt that he was lying that he could not be aware that I had serious debts, he cut the call on me without saying "Goodbye", beware folks!

Never have this issue…….We never answer an unrecognised call! NEVER. If it’s important, they will leave a message.
We hardly get any calls now.
PS: I appreciate that if you are a business, you cannot do that. 👍
Just recently I have had a couple of calls (not messages) via Whatsapp. According to the numbers shown these are from India. These, of course, don't go to voicemail and don't cut off, so I have had to reject them. I have immediately blocked the number. Is this a new approach? I don't answer numbers I don't recognise - I usually let them go to voicemail or, on the house phone, to answerphone. No one ever leaves a message!

I don't do Whatsapp, in fact I don't really know what it is although I have heard of it. However, in my experience these pests will try anything. I have found that recently it is not so effective blocking numbers as these scammers seem to be able to fake whatever number they like. I think this is a case of technology that allows businesses to keep their number even if they have moved to a different area, having unintended consequences.
