I agree, talk to AgeUK.

He needs to work out which benefits are means tested (dependent on having low income / low savings), and which he gets regardless.

He will get his pension, regardless. If he gets Attendance Allowance in respect of his disability this is not means tested.

Well no harm in enjoying himself! By using the money to top up his pension hopefully he will find some ways to enjoy himself.

And check if he could get Attendance Allowance.

If he gets PIP or DLA he can't get attendance allowance.

But PIP isn’t means tested is it? So he wouldn’t be losing it as a result of his inheritance?

So I am guessing that he was on UC / housing benefit fit to disability making work hard?

In which case the arrival of his state pension would adjust things?

Anyway, hopefully AgeUK (or otherwise CAN) can assist with his particular circumstances.

Deborah Turner I was just saying if he is getting PIP or DLA he could not claim attendance allowance, I never mentioned anything to do with anything being means tested.

No but whatever benefits he is getting must be means tested to be stopped due to the inheritance. So maybe not PIP / DLA?

PIP, DLA & Attendance Allowance (AA) are not means tested, they are age related. An increase in capital or income won’t affect them.
