That has shot up in price! £12.90. They are having a giraffe. And Mrs sat nav kept telling us to turn off at every junction.What was that about?

Maybe she saw delays ahead?

We find it expensive too, we do sometimes use it with the car, but never with the 'van, as that is class 2, not class 1 as all over Europe.

No delays ahead. I think she was trying to find the quickest way. Also said to get on the M6 at the M6/M1 junction, where the M6 ends! Know nothing about class 1 and 2, not been abroad for years.

Might depend if you have toll roads switched off on your sat nav and that could be the reason why its trying to take you off? However I would have thought it would have asked whilst you were planning your route whether you wanted to use toll roads?

I didn't know there was an option David. Will have to look into it. She certainly wanted us to go through Brum. No thanks, even on a Sunday. We know the route well but OH wanted to use Satnav.

It used to be good when caravans went free if you showed your CMC membership card but that perk ended several years ago! We only use it now if the satnav is showing major holdups on the M6 itself.

I'm 'allergic' to paying tolls, so have always avoided the M6T in the past, but had so many diabolically bad journeys with hold ups for hours on M6 in general, I just avoid it totally now, the new toll fee is an even greater incentive to avoid the area!

I've taken to going north/south on M1 or A1 and cutting across Yorkshire if needing to be over to the west, it may be longer, and theoretically slower as further, but usually proves to be far more reliable and infinitely less stressful, and almost certainly quicker in the real world! 10 plus hour journeys to my beloved Lake District via M6 were putting me off ever going there again!

We have just been to Dovesite at Melbourne, Derbyshire, Plane Trees near Halifax, Whitecroft Farm at Strines between New Mills and Marple and Park Farm at Stafford. So M1/M62 M62 again and M60, back to M60 and M6/M6 toll, M1. Interesting in the clouds on M62, over1,200' up apparently.

Don't blame you! I've wasted too much of my life stuck for ages on M5 south of Bristol on far too many occasions!

TBH, usually look carefully at my caravan journeys these days, and see if I can't do it by A roads rather than motorways! Pootling along at 50-60mph, not really often gaining much time on a motorway even if clear! .... and clear is as rare as hens teeth!

M6 Toll for us every time, the cost is completely irrelevant.
The ease of drive is a winner for me and the parking is a dream at Norton Canes Services.
Can never get in at the caravan parking, about six bays, as there are always inconsiderate there. Use the truck parking which is massive and I have never seen more than six trucks parked up.
Great for walking the dogs.

We bite the financial bullet and use the M6 Toll on our journeys to and from the ferry port at Portsmouth from Cumbria, however we don't have the van with us on those journeys. It is a few miles of much quieter motorway and easier driving, which we appreciate on our 330 mile journey. We also like Norton Canes services as it has a good dog walk.

I once had a job interview at Norton Canes, and got the job, which lasted 16 years until the company closed the position down due to COVID, definitely worth the Toll charge, which I naturally claimed back on my expenses with said company !

you must be joking bofs, I took my private pension, and joined the ranks of Home Shop Delivery Driver for one of the top four super markets, I went for a four day contract, working mornings only (8 hour shift), but as I enjoy it so much I do five days at my choice, so when I feel like it I do just four days.
Went mad one week and did a double shift 16 hours, wont be repeating that in a hurry though, at the tender age of 64 I am one of the younger drivers !, the oldest being 74 !

My State Pension is just over a year away, so I might just drop down to my contracted four days when that happens.

I must admit it is physical work, and I have certainly dropped a T Shirt size or two, since starting the job almost three years ago, straight after my last job of 16 years ended.

Retirement does not appeal to me at this stage of my life, but I am sure it will one day !
