I retired at 58, best thing ever. My job of 34 years was amazing, more a way of life, but being retired is so much better……I don’t know how I ever found time to work! 🤷

£8-90 for a car, not towing.

Still extortionate.

But I love the M6 Toll for my once a year trip to the Lakes. It is such a relief after the horrible M42.

My regular London-Lake District trips involving any part of M6 have taken on nightmarish proportions in past few years, regularly turned into over 10 hour trips because of unpredictable accidents and hold ups (well, think you CAN guaranty there WILL be both!!!!)! Tried every reasonable way possible of cutting out bits of M6 (except using the toll, but that section hasn't always been the worst!).

I've now taken to pootling (caravan in tow, so not going to be going any faster if on a motorway!) up A1 to Harrogate, then across A59/A65 as my favoured route these days, BUT last year the A59 was closed by a landslip, so as an attempt to avoid M6, I went A1-M62-A65, through rather than very much around Bradford! .... that redefined my definition of road hell, well, put it on a par with M6! Don't think I'd ever been on M62 before, and no desire to ever do it again! Bradford A roads pretty hellish, but we did keep moving!

As to M42, it's been a while, but was a car park last time, so keen to avoid in future just in case!

Quite convinced any road anywhere near Birmingham is worth avoiding!

Have a look how much it costs for a two axle, 3.5 ton motorhome, which apparently is class 4 then hold onto your wallet. £15.30!! An Articulated lorry is 60 pence more! At £15.90. If going south now from the north-west I now cut across on the A500 to the M1 at Nottingham and avoid the whole area.
If you want something to think about for the M6 Toll, they actually have a category for "Number of Wheels - 2 or less". Now I have seen unicycles at fairs and the like, but never on a trunk road.

We have a Blue badge so we pay a tenner for the year to register and we get through the Toll by vehicle number plate recognition and a choice of two dedicated booths and this includes car and Caravan

Definitely check the sat nav settings, Mrs B.
There's usually an on/off option for avoiding tolls (as there usually is for ferries too).

Mine is set to avoid tolls on a day to day basis, when in the UK, mainly to avoid the local-ish M6 toll when out and about for work.

I just have to remember to switch off the "Avoid" option once I'm heading down towards Dartford and the French autoroutes beyond!
