Got a site booked for a couple of weeks time, site itself gives best directions and advises against a particular lane that leads directly to site, family who live in the village where site located and know the local roads proffered it as a option for accessing the camp site, ALL sat nav/route planners used it (AGAIN, the shortest route!) on their Caravan friendly routes, a quick look at Google Earth/Street view told me with some certainty I'd batter hell out of the van, not just on the sides, but on the ROOF as well, from the narrow tunnel of low overhanging trees! OK I may get a few green streaks down side of van that would polish off, but also having mushroom roof vents for shower and microwave, not to mention TV aerial battered off the roof by low hung trees, is NOT my idea of a caravan suitable route!!!!
I put a bit of research into approach roads particularly, for camp sites, and find Google Street view invaluable, I CERTAINLY do not take sat nav routes as 'safe'! …. you may technically be able to negotiate the route, but at what cost!
