While staying at broadway CMC we were thinking of travelling to Oxford for a day trip .
Can I use my bus pass on hop on and off bus or any sight seeing buses .
Also is Oxford worth a visit in the winter ??
Don't know about the bus pass rules.
It's definitely worth a visit at any time of year. Have a general wander around looking at the colleges, take a look at the covered market though it's a bit full of cafes and tat rather than butchers and greengrocers nowadays. Absolutely fit in a visit to the Pitt-Rivers Museum and the Ashmolean. There's far more than enough for one day.
Absolutely Oxford is worth visiting in winter, especially if the sun is shining so the stone glows. And it’s got a real buzz in term time, when the students are there. (Other university towns are available! St Andrew’s springs to mind.)
I doubt your bus pass is useable on hop on/off buses. But you can use the local buses in that manner, just don’t get the commentary. If you have a number of days in Oxford, perhaps spend the money first day to do the complete circuit on hop on/off bus, then use local buses to visit the places that were of interest.
Where can I use my bus pass? Your bus pass is valid for use on all registered Bus services within England, so if you are visiting other places you should be able to use your pass. It is not valid in Wales* or Scotland.
We lived and worked in Oxford for many, many years and still visit regularly.
Your bus pass will not be valid on the hop on hop off buses. The local buses are plentiful and regular though. Having said that Oxford is very walkable as the city centre is quite small. I'd choose a couple of Colleges (check when they are open to the public as it varies), the Covered Market, possibly a museum that covers your interests, and, if the weather is nice a walk by the river at Christ Church. And of course a pub or two!
The City Council has lots of info about self organised walking routes here that you could tailor to suit yourselves.
Just note that parking in Oxford for any vehicle is horrendous and expensive. I would suggest using one of the Park & Rides.
