Nothing political intended. I just wonder why it is always referred to as £300. We got £100 each and won't get it any more.

Didn't it depend on your age to get the £300 i.e. over 75 or whether you were on Pension credit?

We are both 77 and have only ever received £100 each. I was trying to say that the media always refer to £300.

They've seen you've got a Coachman and thought you probably don't have the need for any more.

Not sure what we are getting this year. It has always been £200 paid to me. I do get a very small amount of pension credit so hopefully I should still get it. I do feel sorry though for those who are just a tiny bit over the limit and will lose the lot because of that. Does it change at 75? We both turned that in June this year.

Best Regards,
Colin

Ha ha, well, luckily we don't but we pay more tax every year when the state pension is increased.

I wish the winter fuel allowance had been means tested from the start.

I really do believe in "each according to their need"

We are fortunate to not "need"it but were sufficiently selfish to accept it

Will increasing the state pension remove a lot from being able to claim pension credit and the heating allowance

Crazy situation! I have a very small pension from a previous job, not a lot as I am still entitled to claim a tiny bit of pension credit. However, because they haven't raised the tax threshold this year I am now taxed on my company pension! Give with one hand, take back with the other comes to mind.

Colin

The tax free allowance has been fixed for a few years. This govt has not made any indication of changing it. Of course the MPs will claim for heating their London pads on expenses!

I pay quite a bit in tax on my miniscule private pension, and last week got a bill for underpaid tax. No idea why it is underpaid, they know what I get and set the tax code. I will have to try to phone.

As an octogenarian I was getting a higher fuel allowance, but young auntie got less.

I think the £100 per pensioner was the standard rate. However this was enhanced by a further £150 each last year (slightly different if you live on your own?)to help cover the large increase in energy prices. I suppose one has to balance that against two years of pretty generous increase in the state pension to cover inflation which was mainly caused by the spike in energy prices?

David
