Debbie Rush, the actress who played Anna Windass in Corrie, came to our Church for a while, with her daughter Poppy Rush who was an actress in Emmerdale and Eastenders. I used to chat to them, and Debbie came to our ladies group to chat about her work.

Went to see the last show of West End's run of Hello Dolly! recently starring Imelda Staunton as Dolly, Jim Carter her husband was sitting a few rows behind me.

Brian Cox was also there, and I believe Gyles Brandreth was there too.

I worked as a bar charge hand in my twenties. It was a very popular location and had a lot of celebs and footballers etc as regulars. When I was leaving to go to Lithuania, Gazza gave me 50 quid. That was a third of my weekly wages at the time. He wasn't allowed to go on the leaving do though as a lot of alcohol would have been involved.
The rest were your usual round of late 80s and early nineties bunch in Scotland.

Only famous person I have met was in the seventies and eighties and that was the Prime Minster of Rhodesia Ian Smith. Not sure if anyone remembers him? RIP.

Plus the Beira patrol. As a young policeman I guarded his residence and then many years later he joined our ex-serviceman's club which is when I actually met and spoke with him. Despite turbulent times, Smith only had one bodyguard and travelled alone with no convoy.

Most famous person I have spoken to is Prince Philip. I was working and he thanked me for being patient waiting for him and the Queen. We had a brief conversation about whether the crowds were behaving themselves.

Over the years I've been on trains with quite a few famous people, just this year it was Rory Underwood. Over the years I've seen Grayson Perry, John Culshaw, Andy Kershaw, Edward Fox sat next to me on a tube train.

Following rugby for 30 years I've met a lot of famous rugby players and became good friends with a player who played for Wales a few dozen times. His wedding was a whos who of early 2,000s rugby players including a couple of England World Cup winners.

Julian Clary stayed overnight with us, before he became well known. We were on a voluntary committee running an arts centre & kept down the costs of visiting theatre groups by taking turns to put them up at home rather than pay for B&B. He was with a group called The Farndale Ladies Townswomen’s Guild: all men, being the Ladies doing a play in which they dress up to act as men. It was funny & completely believable, no hamming it up.
He was a delightful man, quiet, a very easy guest.

'Infamous'...... Edwina Currie twice. She visited the school I worked in after it had been 're-organised' and again 4 years later. Don't know how but she remembered my name - much to the headteacher's surprise - she'd not even realised he was head!

I have to make do with James Callaghan, but he spoke to Mum, not me. We were at the Labour eve of poll meeting, in Stratford upon Avon in 1963. John Profumo had resigned for reasons which we all know about. Mum was determined to speak to JC as she had heckled the Tory candidate at JC's prospective seat in Cardiff, 1945. "Surely you weren't old enough my dear" he said to Mum. She was 21.

When a schoolboy I was introduced to Louison Bobet who went on to win the Tour de France in 3 successive years. I had no idea who he was or why my friends were so excited.

Another, which probably doesn't count as he was a friend, was Sir David Amess

I suppose a little tenuous, as before/after concert chats with fans, but, Bernie Marsden (post Whitesnake), quite a few times, he was such a nice humble man, no 'star' airs and graces, much missed. Del Bromham (Stray), again a number of times, and another nice chap. Paul Young (in his 'hobby band' Los Pacaminos guise - they played small pub room gigs where they were very accessible to the small crowd, yet again, a really nice chap, going back to his musical roots with such enthusiasm and appreciating the engagement of the audience, you'd stand next to him and chat at the bar totally casually!).

In a far more social setting, spent a few evenings with Kiki Dee as she's a friend of friends, and met her after her gigs as well.

For the Dinosaurs who can remember TV from the early 60's, I met Muriel Young, the kids TV presenter, when I was a nipper, and can't for the life of me remember where or why, and no one left alive who'd know to jog my memory!

Back to my yoof, I was at school with Karan David (actress, married to actor/comedian Roger Kitter, and acted in many 70's TV programs).

Used to occasionally drink in the same pub as Ian Hendry (the actor), but that was in his declining years, and he'd had quite a head start on us in the 'imbibing', so sadly seemed best not to engage with!

My cousin was a world class globe trotting photographer, a contemporary of David Bailey and such like, well known for his work in the music industry from 60's to 80's, many an album cover featured his work, regularly published in the Sunday Times and Times Supplement too!

Did share a train carriage to Brighton I think, back in late 70s or 80s with a fair chunk of the Labour cabinet of the time. Probably with hindsight, but can't help but recall how accurate Spitting Image got Roy Hattersley!

Bit pushing boundaries as not me, but my Ex used to regularly bump into and chat with Boris Johnson in his Mayor of London days when both were commuting around London. Despite her vehement anti-Tory views, she actually liked him and said he properly engaged in conversation on a 1 to 1 basis, not just lip service 'pleasantries to the plebs'!

Probably met a fair few more, certainly a few motor racing drivers, but not the star struck "can I have a 'selfie/autograph'" type, so they don't necessarily flood back to mind instantly. If an effort made to engage with them, probably me thanking them for entertaining us, or to congratulate them!
