Laptop or desktop it doesn't matter, what does is that you have the necessary drive to play CDs. If your laptop doesn't have one you will have to beg, borrow, or buy one.
The only other alternatives I can think of are to get music by downloads, or to transfer music onto your laptop from someone else's USB. However you get music onto your laptop, it's an easy copy and paste onto a USB stick.

at Joanna Download Windows Media player and that has the option to rip and burn CDs
My computer has Media Player loaded (I assume that this is the same as Windows Media Player, as when I google it this is what comes up). However, there doesn't appear to be an option to rip or burn cds. Do I need to download something else or (horror of horrors) subscribe to something?
------------- Freedom is a light caravan and an open road.
I use a mac and it an easy job copying disc into itunes and then drag into usb device.
Another method I have used is to connect a mini recorder (eg Zoom h1 which I already have from my days of video production) to the line out of a cd player or computer and then play the disc and the recorder puts it directly on a mini sd card. Just another way of dong it, but long winded.
Far too complicated for me! I now have the added problem of the middle keys on my laptop keyboard not working, apart from g and h. Think I will ask my neighbour to do it for me.

I assume this last message was posted via a phone, as every letter on the middle row of your computer appeared in your last message in one word or another....

For your keyboard, right click on the taskbar (bottom of screen) and look for the "Show touch keyboard " and you'll have a small keyboard to work with using your mouse.

No, not yet. Obviously not doing something right. Now we are away in the caravan so may not get the chance to try again before Christmas. It will have to be on a promise I think. Thanks for asking.

Open Media Player and on the righthand side of the page, look for the "Switch to Library " logo ( three small squares and an arrow), right click on the logo and select "more options" and on the box that comes up, select "Rip Music".
Job done and choose your options on there.
